Visiting mid-April

Hi,
we are planning a trip to KC the 2nd weekend in April. What is the weather like?
Where are some great places to visit, eat, shop, things to do, etc.? We are only going to be there for a short weekend. Please include any kid friendly ideas too. We have a 2 year old.
Thanks!

Re: Visiting mid-April

  • The KC Zoo is good for kids.  Lots of good shopping areas in Kansas City.  The Legends, Zona Rosa, the Plaza.
  • Weather is hit or miss. In 2006, when we got married on the 15th, it was in the 70s. The next year we got snow. So pack a little of both summer and winter apparel. Legends is a BLAST. They have a T-Rex exhibit. You can go to their website (legendsshopping.com) to see if they have any fun activities while you're here. The zoo is fun too and in April, it won't be too hot and it'll still be off-season prices. Have fun! :)

  • Here are some local websites:
    -crowncenter.com (shopping, restaurants)
    -visitkc.com
-unionstation.org (connected to Crown Center by skywalk, pretty to walk around, has a kids' science museum)
-countryclubplaza.com (shopping and lots of restaurants, good to walk around on a nice day)
-http://powerandlightdistrict.com/public/ (new shopping/restaurant/entertainment district, not all stores open yet)

Our favorite bbq restaurants are Fiorella's Jack Stack (locations on the Plaza and near Union Station) and Arthur Bryant's.  Whatever you do, don't go to KC Masterpiece BBQ- yuck!

A kid-friendly place that was mentioned in a previous post was Kaleidoscope at Crown Center, which has arts & crafts stuff for kids to do. Our friend's kids loved it.
