STL gal needing KC help

Hi ladies on the other side.  :)  I will be in KC the 12-14th with my DH and 2 children (7m & 2y).  I will be in a conference at the Hyatt Regency ? Crown Center but staying at the Holiday Inn at the Plaza.  Since I will be in the conference ALL day Thursday,I'm looking for things that my DH can do with the kiddos.  I know about the zoo and the Crayola store but I'm sure that there are other things as well for them to do.

Also can you all recommend some good restaurants?  I've looked on restaurants.com but really it's just names..no real recommendations.

Thanks ladies!

  • Crown Center has Kaleidescope which is a lot of fun for kids. They can create all kinds of fun stuff there. I think there's also some kind of theater at Crown Center. Oh-and there's ice skating there too!

  • In Crown Center (crowncenter.com) there's a cool casual restaurant called Fritz's that the kids would probably like. They have a miniature train track running around the ceiling, and the trains actually come around the restaurant and deliver your food down onto the table.  I think the adults thought it was as cool as the kids did the last time I was there :) And as pp said, Kaleidoscope is supposed to be cool- I think there's a lot of arts & crafts stuff that kids can make stuff with.

Crown Center is connected by skywalk to Union Station, which has a kids' science museum called Science City. Our friend's 3 & 4 yr olds enjoyed it, but you might want to look into it to see if there's stuff for younger kids. Website is sciencecity.com

There's a good bbq place near Union Station called Fiorella's Jack Stack, and I think they just opened another location on the Plaza. There are also several Gates BBQs around town (one about 1 mile from the Plaza) that are good. We also like a restaurant not too far from the Plaza called Minsky's Pizza (minskys.com).

    Enjoy your trip!

  • Ditto Kaleidescope. I can't wait until my kiddo is old enough to enjoy it. I've also heard good things about Fritz's, but I think I also heard it was a little expensive. Have fun. :)
