Good places to vacation in the US

Does anyone have any suggestions on good places to vacation in the US?  We are starting to think about vacation this year and trying to decide where we want to go.  We did Orlando last year.  Thanks for any help.

Michele

  • I've never been to San Diego, but once there was a poll on the Nest travel board with this same question and over half of the responses said San Diego.

We went to Denver over the summer and they have this great new casino town that is pretty cool. There are probably 20 casino/hotels within walking distance of one another.

  • We've done San Diego, Boston and Ft. Meyers FL. I have also been to DC twice.

I think a lot depends on the type of vacation you want...Florida for us was complete leisure...I read about 8 books in one week laying on the beach and at the pool! San Diego, Boston and DC were more touristy trips for us...we loved the history of Boston and DC. San Diego we did the zoo, sea world and a bunch of time just walking around the city!

  • I love San Francisco, Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, and of course Vegas. I want to go to Washington DC, NYC, and San Diego.

What are you wanting to do on vacation?
  • I would really like to go somewhere warm and relaxing.  We had the best time in Jamaica but we are looking for something cheaper.  Does anyone know of any cheaper all inclusives?  We are thinking of extending Labor Day and going then.  Thanks.

  • We loved San Diego. Next trip to California, we want to go up to San Francisco. San Diego has a lot of tourist things, as does San Francisco.

  • We did a 4 day trip to Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico before we were even engaged.  I loved it.  Lots of art, shopping, history and great gourmet restaurants.

We stayed at Bishop's Lodge Resort and Spa www.bishopslodge.com and they had a ton of activities there but it was mostly just a romantic, relaxing vacation for us with amazing scenery.
  • We did the Grand Canyon/Scottsdale AZ back when we were dating-it was fabulous. Warm, beautiful scenery and very relaxing. We stayed at a great place in Scottsdale with the best spa called the Mondrian. It's about $130ish a night. Then we also stayed at the Cameron Trading Post for a few nights because it was a little bit cheaper, more "touristy" I guess and had a great view.

I've been to San Diego several times, love it. Make sure you visit the Hotel del Coronado. Great beaches in the area and lots of stuff to do.

I've been to FL, too, and it's way to touristy IMO, not nearly as relaxing.

Colorado is always up there for a good, relaxing vaca, but not if you want it to be overly warm ;o)

  • This is kind of different, but last year we went to Tennessee. We went to Fall Creek Falls State park (cool waterfalls) and then went to Chattanooga.

My parents did a long weekend in San Antonio. They recommended the River Walk area there.

Girlfriends and I went to Hilton Head and had a blast. Good hotels, beaches, and shopping!

  • Some place that is not the normal down her would be heading up to Door County, WI. It is the "thumb" of WI. The weather will be beautiful, the lake is always so relaxing just to sit by and read. There are so many nice little towns up there. Since it is a holiday weekend there will be a lot of different events going on.

  • I would even try somewhere in Destin, Florida.  We went there for July 4th last year and had a blast.  It's on the gulf of Mexico with white sand beaches.  We are even thinking of going down there again in May.

    Have fun whatever you decide!!
