Cancun

We are planning our summer vacation and want to do an AI in Mexico. We are looking in the areas of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Akumal. What resorts have you stayed at? Things you did that are not to be missed?

Thanks!

Re: Cancun

  • I didn't stay at an all inclusive, but our cruise ship stopped in Playa del Carmen, and if you go you have to see the Myan ruins!!!

  • We went to Cancun for our HM and stayed at an AI. It was amazing! Really pricey but well worth it!
  • We loved Cancun and Playa. We looked at going there this May, but opted for a new place--Puerto Vallarta. Anyway, we almost booked Dreams in Cancun. It looked awesome and had great reviews. We have stayed at Excellence Riviera Cancun and Gran Caribe Real. I loved both places.

Definitely do the Jungle Tour. You drive a 2 person speedboat throuth the lagoon, out into the ocean. Then you snorkel for an hour or so. It was a great time! There's also Tulum, Xcarat, Chichen Itza and Isla Mujeres. SO much to do there!
  • LONG-----
We did Cancun in december.  LOVED it!  We also did Puerto Vallarta last July and it was *good*.

We stayed at The Royal in Cancun and it was 5star all the way.  (small beach but you can use sister property next door.)

Check it online and tripadvisor.com  the only negative people say is that the mexican food isn't authentic (it is great food - just not a burritto covered in melted cheese)

24 hour a day room service and amenities.  In room liquor, plasmas, 5 no reservation-restaurants, spa, enormous pool, etc.

We played with the dates and got it pretty inexpensive.

let me know if you have other questions....
  • Last year we stayed at Riu Caribe and this year we are staying at Dreams. We had no problems at all at the Riu last year. I think I have some pics in my bio. The entertainment was great and the food was pretty good too. We only left there once to go out to eat and ended up coming right back to eat there instead. You really don't need to leave your resort!

Oh-and we did a "jungle" tour on one of those two-seater boats. There really was no jungle, but we got to boat up the coast. That was only maybe $30 each and pretty fun.

  • We just booked a trip back to that area for a little vacay.

Our wedding was at the Moon Palace (AI) and we loved it so much we are going back to another Palace Resort (www.palaceresorts.com). It was amazing!!!! This time we are going to the Palace in Playa. Can't wait!

I found a TA that works for them and he is fabulous. Email me and I'll give his contact info. You can't beat his prices and I highly recommend Palace. We had some really picky travelers and everyone loved it.

  • We stayed at the Royal Playa del Carmen.  It's an adults-only all-inclusive.  Nothing but the very best reviews from us!  In fact, we are planning to go back to Mexico and we're not even going to try any place else!  5 different places to eat, great drinks, nice pools and a good location on the beach.  Our room was oceanfront, which we really enjoyed.  Apart from lounging at the resort, we swam with dolphins at an aquarium.  I didn't care for it much but I know a lot of people love it.

    Have a great trip!
