Parent teacher conferences :-(
I'm here until 8pm tonight and Wednesday. Usually by about 7 I start walking in circles in my tiny room, quacking like a duck. It drives me nuts! Especially on nice days...
So teachers, what has your worst conference experience been? Or if you are a parent of school age children, any horror stories?
I once had a dad tell me and the reg ed teacher that the school was satan, and then he stood up and walked out of the school yelling about communist organizations...scary, but slightly entertaining :-)

Re: Parent teacher conferences :-(
Yikes!
My beef with p/t conferences is that the parents who you don't need to see show up (and those you don't necessarily want to see - read over involved)....and those that you really need to see are the no-shows.
I did have a session once where a student's 1 year old brother was running rampant around the building, yelling, "F***ing idiot" at the top of his lungs. While he wasn't my student, I had to actually say something to him about using inside voices and appropriate language for school.
i had a conference about 3 yrs ago with a set of parents for a particularly difficult little girl. on my list to discuss was 1) lots of tardies 2) bullying/hitting 3) inappropriate language towards others.
i addressed the tardies and the mom turns to the dad, smacks him open-handed across the back of his head (hard!!) and says "what the f*** is wrong with you? can't you get off your lazy a$$ in the mornind and get your daughter to school? sorry to interrupt your life but you were there when she was concieved can't you be there now?" and i thought...um....ok.....never did bring up the bullying/hitting or language. those questions got answered right away!
had another one last year. kid was youngest of 3. middle brother was 6 yrs older and oldest brother was 10 yrs older. we were discussing that it was nice to have the older siblings b/c they could have older brother read with/to kiddo when parents had to work late. mom says "yeah, we didn't plan XX. we got a new couch and then 9 months later we got XX" ACK! that was way more than i needed to know!
