Does anybody remember the calculators on the carts at Walmart?? I remember when our walmart became a super walmart that they had calculators on carts and I thought it was so cool....they didn't last long though. That was probably 15 years ago. I think they are a great idea. I am always writing the prices down next to the item on my list and then adding them up.

Re: Calculators and shopping
I don't think our Walmarts ever had those.
Like I said, when I was a teenager/living at home, I'd offer to grocery shop for my mom. My mom is ALL CASH woman... to this day, she won't touch a debit card and HATES the checkbook (which most places don't take checks around here anymore anyway.) So when I went, I added things up as I went to make sure I had enough cash with me.
Now MH and I have started doing this again. We go into the grocery store thinking "We have our list, we have $120 budgeted, and we can't spend over $120." If we are planning on eating out, we subtract that from the $120 (for example) and think "Okay, we have $80 that we can spend.. no more."
He writes down prices, I keep tally on the calculator.
