Re: Fiesta Poll!

  • What are your favorite Fiesta Events?
Oyster Bake, NIOSA, and the doggie parade

What will you attend this year?
We're working a beer booth at Oyster Bake and I may work a sangria booth at NIOSA. It may just be OB this year (we rotate each event every year)

What is your MUST HAVE Fiesta Food?
Roasted corn, chicken on a stick, sausage on a stick and maybe even a turkey leg. I obviously couln't stick to just one!

How many NIOSA cups do you have hiding in your cupboard? We finally cut back and kept 2 of each from the past 5 years.

What is your favorite area of NIOSA?
I like the German area and the Irish. Both are a little hidden away. There's dancing in the German town and the band in the Irish town are usually really funny!

  • Well, it's been 11 years since I attended a fiesta event. I am so excited to be living here again. Matt's going to have no idea what to make of it. So I can't really answer this poll :) But I'm as excited as he!! for fiesta this year!!!

  • What?!  Doggie Parade?!!  awesome.

I haven't been in over 10 yrs, so this is from my way past:

    Favorite event: NIOSA

I want to go to NIOSA at least once this year!!

FIESTA food: certain foods at NIOSA (shy-poke eggs, puffy tacos, potato skins....)

Favorite area of NIOSA is NIOSA itself!!!!

  • Hmm, I actually hate NIOSA. Its always so crowded and rowdy. Every time we went I had beer spilled on me. And I always worry about getting stabbed, lol. Maybe I've just been on the wrong nights...

I enjoy going to the fiesta parade and the King William Fiesta. It's never too crowded, there are always lots of vendors selling nice things and good prices. Love it. We've also been to Oyster Bake for a concert one year, but I thought it was expensive...Also went to Alamo Heights Night last year. It was pretty good. Not too crowded, but I think I liked Oyster Bake better.

Maybe this year we will take Fiona to the pooch parade.

  • What is NIOSA?? I need to check it out!
  • FYI - for anyone needing info on fiesta, the official website w/ a calendar and all the info you ever wanted is www.fiesta-sa.org. NIOSA = Night in Old San Antonio. It's pronounced "NEYE-OH-SAH". Now you'll be able to correct someone if they pronounce it the incorrect "NEE-OH-SAH." You'd be surprised at the debate this generates around her. =) As a kid I always loved the Battle of Flowers Parade. I love the court's dresses. Now, the only Fiesta event I go to is Champagne & Diamonds, which is fun...but I only go b/c of work. I wouldn't go otherwise. I also like just going down to El Mercado for lunch. I also love coronation and, of course, cornyation. =) I have never been to NIOSA, and have no desire to go. I have such a problem with paying so much money for parking & to get in, then pay for expensive drinks, expensive food, etc. I'd much rather go to a nice dinner. Most of all, even if I don't go to much Fiesta stuff and generally dislike the crowds, I do love the tradition and history behind it, and how its so unique to SA.
