*** Austin Nestie Help: Pharmacy School ***

Hi All,

I'm an Austin Nestie, and hope the San Antonio Nesties can help me out. I've also posted on the other Texas city boards.  I was wondering if anybody is a pharmacist or attending pharmacy school or knows someone who does. I'm interested in a career change and want to apply to Pharmacy school. Since it involves me taking some pre-reqs and committing four-years of school full time, I'd like to get more information about the schools, esp. UT and UH, and the different career paths available. My DH and I would appreciate it. Please page me on the Austin Nest board if possible. Thanks.

Re: *** Austin Nestie Help: Pharmacy School ***

  • I have a friend who went through the program at UT and has been a pharmacist for about 5 years now.  Let me get in touch with her and see if you guys can exchange emails.  I do know that it was VERY demanding and the prereq's were just short of a chemistry minor.  I'll get back to you...

  • Thanks.  Please e-mail me at texasaggielonghorn [at] yahoo [dot] com.
  • my dad (and grandpa and great granda!) is a pharmacist- he went to UH Pharm school.
there are a  LOT of pharm paths to take- hospital, grocery, retail, caremark types, etc.
the jobs pay very well, particularly now and the starting pay is high, but they can have long hours and can keep you away from home in the evenings or weekends.

as a pharmacy family, i sorda broke the mold not pursuing that path, but i loathed science, so the science-intensive schooling just wasnt for me.  if you like science, its a great path to pursue!
