House Hunting!!

Hello everyone! I messaged a few months ago about moving from Baton Rouge and really appreciated all the great advice about where to live. DH and I are coming in town this week to look at houses. We are looking in the NW area of town since its close to Lackland. Can anyone recommend some good places to eat?

I'm also going to be interviewing for jobs while we are in town. Unfortunately most of the places I've found to work are downtown. Is traffic bad coming from the NW side of town to downtown? I worried because it only takes me 10 minutes to get to work now, I've been so spoiled!! :)

Re: House Hunting!!

  • I live on the NW side and commute to DT. It takes me about 30 min. They expanded I-10 so it's gotten a little better. It's really bad around the 1604 and I-10 interchange through Dezavala and Huebner. I probably spend 20 of my 30 min that area.

  • When I worked downtown my commute was 40 minutes.

On foot :). Oh how I miss walking to work! Now I work in the Med Center and have to drive :(

I-10 inside the loop really is nice now, so that'll help. Depends where you live on the NW side. I find the worst part of traffic is often on the surface roads.

  • We live on the NW side.  But we don't commute to DT.  DH goes to the med center and I stay in NW side or go NE to sub.

My fave place to eat right now is Sarika's Thai/Chinese (on Medical Drive near med center).

I also love Sushi Zushi for awesome sushi (off I-10/Wurzbach, in The Collonade).

For Mexican: My fav places are either DT or on the N Central side (Rosarios, El Jarro).  But some other good places on the NW side are: Mamacitas (I-10, S of Wurzbach), Pericos (Bandera and Prue Rd.), Alamo Cafe (I-10, Wurzbach).

For American/variety cuisine: I love EZ's.  There are a couple around town (Bitters, 281) and (I-10, De Zavala).
