Anyone wanting an AKC yellow lab pup?

My friend's labs just had puppies...she has six of them.
2 girls, 4 boys...all stinking adorable.

Let me know if you are interested!

Re: Anyone wanting an AKC yellow lab pup?

  • Is she selling them or just trying to place them in good homes?

  • J&J- you will love a lab! However, please please please do your research. If they are selling their labs, then I am going to go out on a big limb and say they are BYB (Backyard Breeders.) The only way they could be a reputable breeder would be if they show their lab and their lab has won titles. And then they wouldn't need to advertise bc people would have been lined up before the pups were even conceived. A reputable breeder breeds to better the breed. The only way they can be sure they are "bettering" the breed is by showing their dogs and by their dogs winning titles. BYB breed for the money. That's it and that's all. They are not bad people. They love their dogs.. but they want to make money off their dog as well. AKC means nothing. My lab could have been born with a horn. As long as his parents had "papers" then my unicorn lab could have papers and be AKC registered. I urge you to consider rescue. SA kills 50,000 dogs a year. And out of that 50,000, there are MANY pure labs. Thousands... However, if dougs' friend is rehoming it's a different story. You wouldn't be "feeding the monster" that is a BYB... and then maybe dougs friend would get her dog fixed. The last thing this world needs is another little of lab puppies.

  • We have thought about adopting or rescuing as well, that is why we still don't have another dog.  We haven't come across the right situation.  Thanks for all the info.

Email me and let me know the details DBL.

  • they are looking to sell, rather than rehome them.

but, i promise they are good people!  the backyard breeders that lauren mentioned seem to have a stigma, but these two have only good intentions and completely treat their dogs well- they have had trouble having kids, so they have labs instead.  :)

Julia- I know you might look into adopting, which I think would be GREAT, and good luck finding one- there are so many pups out there that need a good home.

If you end up wanting more information on these, I am still happy to provide!

  • dougsbug- I'm sure your friends are lovely people and I bet they adore their dogs and treat them as their children. BYB aren't bad people... they are either:

    1) uneducated about breeding bc if they knew that breeding their female upped her chances of having cancer by 50%, and risked her health/life by giving birth they probably wouldn't have mated her. (hello!?!? if you love your dog, why put her through the pain of birth??) If they own an unaltered male, they are upping the chances of the male having testicular cancer (and all the behavior issues that come w/ an unaltered male.)

OR 2) they are selfish and want the money and don't care about the health risks to their dogs or the fact that our shelters are bursting at the seams with homeless puppies, mostly dogs that are labs or lab mixes.

It's just not something I take lightly. Labs are the most popular breed out there, but they are NOT for everyone. Many people that buy labs just don't do the research. They see what crazy puppies they are and they dump them at the shelter. And BYB don't take the time and/or have the knowledge to screen for proper owners. It just makes me really sad and I want to cry everytime I hear about another BYB producing yet another litter of lab pups.

Go to www.dogsindanger.com and you will see how many labs out there just have DAYS left on this earth. All bc somebody wanted to make some extra cash and/or wasn't a responsible pet owner and didn't spay or neuter.

Please encourage your friend to alter her dogs. For the ones she is selling, she needs to include a spay/neuter contract bc if they are NOT champion show dogs, they do NOT need to be having puppies. Ever.

  • geez... spare us all the lecture.
  • Lindsey- if my so called "lecture" saves one pup on death row.... If it causes ONE person to rescue instead of buy a pup, then my "lecture" was well worth typing. If you'd like to be spared, then don't read it. It's pretty simple really.... I would think even YOU could understand that.

  • whoa whoa whoa... I am not saying one should not adopt pets. In fact, I myself am possibly looking for a rescue right now because I think my Champion line pure bread German Shepherd pup needs a friend. But to insult DBL's friends by calling them selfish or uneducated but then say they are not "bad people"...

When JandJ responded postivily you should have just backed off. Guilting people into your opinion annoys me.

Put it this way... I agree with the message BUT I did not like your delivery. It was bad form.
