Builder Recs??

Does anyone have any recs for custom home builders?  We will be closing on our land in a couple of weeks and I want to go ahead and start researching home builders.  I've heard Texas Heritage, but that's about the only one.

David Umbel Custom Homes...not overly well known...but I've seen his stuff and if we could afford...we'd use him in an instant.  Really good guy too...

My job includes performing new home inspections so I know there are a lot out there!  I would check out the Greater San Antonio Builders Association website.

where is your land?  depending on the area, i know a few custom home builders throughout the city.

my parents are building in the timberwood park area (north of 1604, off of blanco rd).  the builder they are using is Design Tech.  Their office is on 281 in the bulverde area.  designtechhomes.com

their original sales person (Lindie Vandiver) at Design Tech moved to a new company - which is Sierra Classic Homes.  She is based in Wimberley, but do homes in SA and have closer offices.  sierraclassic.com

David Weekly's Build On Your Own Lot is worth checking out. We built in one of their neighborhoods, but we customized and changed a lot of things in our house.

Avoid this builder, bunch of crooks who used to sell used cars run this builder.. Unfortunately I found that out after I signed a $300K custom home contract with them.. Used the cheapest lumbar and material, made a lot of promises and never delivered, very untimely, home strated having problems right after it was built.. Changed super-intendants during construction more than we change  my 1 year old diapers!! Every one says something different, owner/ceo is impossible to get hold of and always hiding behind his secretaries who can only take messages.. VP-of-Sales was a used car salesman just a couple of years ago; made many statements and promises then retracted when was asked for delivery, he hires only used car salesmen to sell people on their cusom homes and they are pros on mixing numbers up, discounting one line item and sticking it to you at another!! I had a very bad taste in my mouth right before closing the construction loan and I was thinking to back out of the deal, I wish I did that and lost my $10,700 deposit at the time!! Instead I mady a stupid decision and let them carry on with construction.
