Question: About a DIY project

So my hand is healing very very well. No redness, no pain and friday I am supposed to stop back by the ER to have my stitches removed. But...I hate to waste the time/money to go there. I really think I can remove them myself. I am a very brave chick. And I used to work in the medical field a thousand years ago. So I think I am going to try to DIY on removing them.

Opinions? Tips?

Thanks ladies!

Kim

  • I say no. The risk of infection is far too great. Go to an urgent care center if you don't want to go to the ER. They can take them out for you.

  • I vote no.  However, I've removed stitches for other people before and it really wasn't an issue. They didn't have insurance, I was an EMT, we were young and thought it was a good idea.

  • there is no way in hell i would do that.

but i'm a chicken when it comes to anything like that and i am clueless about it. i defer to my wife on those types of things.

  • I think this is a terrible idea, but thn again, I am a huge whimp.
  • If it were to get infected it could cost you a whole lot more than the money it will cost to have it taken out at an urgent care or the likes; you could always make an appointment with your PCP to have them tkae it out - assuming you have one (I didn't for 8 months that's why I say that.)

Anyway, whatever you decide.. good luck and be sure to sterilize anything (scissors, tweezers, etc) that you use to remove them.

  • Please don't do this! Urgent care is a great option if you want to avoid the ER.
