Nestie Visiting Chicago Seeking Advice : )

I will be attending a work conference in Chicago in May.  The conference is at the Westin on North Michigan Avenue so I will be staying there during the conference.  My husband is going to travel with me to Chicago so we're going to head up a few days before the conference starts and try to do some fun things around the city.  Is there another hotel or area that you would recommend we stay in since we'll already be at the Westin later on in the week??  We've never been to Chicago..so if you have any advice on some fun things to do while we're there, that would be great too!  Big Smile

Thanks!!

  • if you like doing touristy things, i'd recommend taking the double decker bus tour or an architecture boat tour. the double decker goes all throughout the downtown area, and you can take alternate routes to see chinatown, little italy, greektown, oprah, etc. I'd recommend doing it for 2 days, they always have great 2-day deals, and you can get on and off at whatever stop you want. great way to see everything without walking it and you learn a lot of fun facts. check out metromix.com to see what is going on in the city that week. as far as hotels, i think the westin is in a great location. and be sure to check out any shows in town and get tickets in advance. have fun :)
  • i would check travelzoo for some hotel deals.  We stayed at the Affinia Hotel, just off Michigan for my bachelorette party and it was really nice and very reasonable.  Travelzoo sometimes runs some really good deals on it.    Since we were there, they have also opened up a rooftop bar and sushi/asian restaurant in the hotel that have gotten good reviews (but haven't been to either of those yet).  I think just in the travelzoo email this week there was also a good deal at the hyatt downtown,...like 99, and it's normally 250-ish.
