back from lunch with pictures
i'm REALLY sorry if these pics are huge!!
kitchen before
kitchen after
Please excuse the mess!! This is the display shelf I'm having issues with. None of the things inside it are permanent, I only put them in there to get an idea of what it would look like once I found something to go in there. Any suggestions are welcome

Thanks for your suggestions/help!!
Re: back from lunch with pictures
Really nice! I love how your kitchen looks now - great color combo!

That makes sense. Ok so what about squares picture frames positioned at different heights
First of all, LOVE your place!
I agree with pp about maybe a three frame collage on the wall above the mantle. I also think a big mirror would go nicely on the wall above the mantle.
I found this on thisyounghouse http://www.thisyounghouse.com/2008/11/one-mante-eight-ways/
Hth!
i would do a large, awesome painting, or a great mirror with some different sized pillars with candles on the side.
for the shelves in the kitche, just display something you like. either from travels or some cool cooking utinsils.
For the kitchen, do you have a little collection of something like milk glass, cute vases, cake stands, antique glass bottles? Perhaps you can use that space to display some things you love and collect.
Maybe for the fireplace you can put a really cool round mirror over it. And then accent it with candles, pictures, flowers, etc.
ok so this is the "after" of my fireplace thanks to all of your (and the ladies on the D&R board's) suggestions. Plus I didn't spend a dime since I just repurposed a few things I had round th house and dug up that mirror from the garage where it was collecting dust. So be honest, what do you think?? Anything you would do different??
It looks great! That's so wonderful that you were able to repurpose things from the house. Check out this link, it talks about how to create different looks on side tables, but I think you can use the same principles for a mantle.
How about bringing those 2 framed pieces (mirror and 2 pics) together sort of on one side and layering them like in the first pic on the link?
