how often do you eat out/not cook?
we used to eat almost every meal out-we would pick up bagels on our way to work, go out for lunch, etc. But since we've moved, we've been much better-we both bring our lunches to work every day, I eat breakfast before work or bring a yogurt with me. And we've been doing dinner at home almost every night, except some weekends.
anyone else?
Re: how often do you eat out/not cook?
we're trying to cut back, but these days it's pretty much every day.
(DH has two injured hands, and I've got a bad case of morning sickness, so our house is a dark dark place right now.)
what happened? (sorry if it's been posted already...)
we used to eat dinner out at least 5-6 times a week. ?nowadays, it's maybe once. ?i'm having a really good time cooking, experimenting with new recipes, checking out food blogs.
lunches are different. ?the hub usually goes out with clients and i either forget about lunch completely or grab something from a drive-thru. ?but i've been good lately and have been eating leftovers from the night before.?
We are actually really good with this.
Breakfast: Dh will cook every now and then. Mainly because we car pool and I'm still getting dressed. If not, it's cereal and fruit. Breakfast out is rare in our house.
Lunch: We bring our lunch which usually is wraps (sandwich), leftovers and last resort frozen dinners. We try to only eat out every pay period for lunch.
Dinner: I try to cook atleast 3x a week, minimum. We try to keep eating out to the weekends only, but if we must it is usually the 99 cent menu.
Which by the way my McDonalds has taken the Chicken nuggets off of the 99 cent menu and added 29 cents to the double cheesburger.
Every since I started using Mint.com and seeing where all of our money was going it was quite an eye opener to how much money we were spending on food - both at the grocery store and out at restaurants!
We now take our lunches most days and eat in almost every night at home with the exception of once or twice per week.
I enjoy cooking it's just such a chore while the kiddo is awake (actually it's impossible) so that means I don't start cooking until 8ish and we're not eating until 9ish...
we used to eat out all the time.. now that we have liam and he has a bed time... we eat in for most meals - but do a lot of take out!
breakfast - always in, randomly i'll pick up a bagel and coffee out and (MAYBE out for a sunday brunch every now and then)
lunch - we go out for lunch usually just one day a week on the weekend - unless there is a random business lunch.
dinner - home cooked approx 3-4 days/ week, take out 2-3 days/week, out - once or twice a week.
its amazing how much the dollars add up with dining out!
DH eats breakfast at work and I tend not to eat breakfast. We both eat out for lunch daily and for dinner eat out a couple of times a week. Food is our biggest expense, not just because we eat out (no fast food) but what we cook tends to be expensive.
Hubby cooks eggs and toast every morning, or I make us oatmeal and berries.
Lunch is either soup, salad or lean cuisine.
Dinner is when we both like to eat out. I'd say 2-3 times a week, we try to hit a joint that < $20 for both of us. Maybe once a week we'll splurge a bit more.
This poll is making me hungry!
I think we eat out too frequently, but it's maybe one dinner a week and we'll order pizza or grab Chipotle or something. I try to plan meals in advance so we're not constantly stopping at the supermarket to buy this or that (b/c the little trips add up more than the one big shopping trip) but like my mom, I'm pretty good at making something out of what's in the house. Plus, I like to cook, so it's not a big thing to do it every night (but we eat late, too! The baby isn't always very cooperative about letting me cook.)
DH buys lunch every day, but when I was working I'd just bring mine (leftovers, Lean Cuisin, whatever). DH just discovered the wonder of leftovers-for-lunch and has been bringing his.
Now that I'm home with the baby I feel like I'm constantly foraging for something... cup of cold coffee in hand and lefotver cake or wontons or Cheezits in the other.
