OPKs and pregnancy tests

Do any of you have favorite brands of OPK tests and of pregnancy tests?  My partner asked me to ask ...we have found some of the OPKs a little tricky...yes, even the digitals.  Have any of you been sort of weak reactors to the OPK tests?  Thanks much.

Re: OPKs and pregnancy tests

  • I liked the first response opks we used the line ones and the digitals.  I was a bit anal about the test.  I like to see how the line was changing and then get confirmation of the change with the digital.  For pregnancy the 1st response early test is what we got our first bfp with.  Then we tested with a digital the next morning.  I did not like the store brand at all.  I think we got cvs

    Good luck

  • last month we got CVS brand opks with the lines...they were annoying to read (do the lines match?? is it dark enough??) and we never ended up getting a positive.  its possible that we just were wrong in our timing, but this month i'm going for the first response smiley face for ease of mind.  if these dont work i'll shell out the $$ for the digital.
  • I buy 3 packs from walmart (walmart brand). They just have the lines. Its like 12$ for 3... I think.

If I get 2 to 3 positives we go to planned parenthood and get a blood test.

If I get 1 positive and the second is unreadable or seems like a negative we wait 48 hours and retest.

Anyway that's what we did last year. This year I don't know. Really its about whats on sale because we always go in and get a "real" test done if its positive. I dunno if that made sense.

  • Hmmm....I am confused...sorry to be dense...if you get a poz on the OPK then wait 48 hours is there a chance you will miss the big O(vulation)?  We're trying this weekend and are just wanting to get the timing right.  Thanks to all of you who have weighed in on this.
  • i'm pretty sure jess was referring to pregnancy tests, not opks - you'll definitely want to insem sooner than 48 hrs after your + opk :)

they generally say 12-24hrs after the positive on your opk

  • Thanks ctbride...and Jessica...I realized that after I wrote.  we're on the 12 and 36 after O plan.  Sorry for the confusion and thanks again for the help.  This weekend is our second try.
  • sorry...I should say 12 and 36 after OPK poz....
  • Yeah I think Jess was talking about preg tests.  For us we got a pos opk in the am and then called the midwives.  We had the appointment the next day.  The cycle we got pregnant we had our appointment at about 11.  The first cycle it was at 9 am (bfn) second cycle the iui was at 3pm  (bfn).  Hope this helps

  • Thanks...we're doing it at home.  So if OPK+ at 5pm then inseminating at 5 am (egads!) the next two days.
  • I know I am a little late in responding but we used the Clear Blue Easy Digital OPK the cycle that we got pregnant. When we were tracking cycles in the months prior to trying we used the regular Clear Blue Easy tests. Good luck!
  • I just wanted to wish you luck. For what its worth, we used regular OPK's and when we thought we were getting close used digitals to confirm. It really helped us feel better about timing.
  • You see this is why I should learn what all the letters stand for...

    Sorry. :(

I'm really tired and for some reason extremely stressed about ttc. All I have on my mind is preg. tests.

    I should have realized.

Sorry again. :sigh: :goes to cry: (I'm so emotional it isn't funny, I just yelled at E b/c he asked if I was going to make dinner...then I started sobbing. Now I feel guilty cause I was a grump, not to mention like an idiot for not picking up on what was being asked about.)

  • No worries....we totally have baby on the brain in our house too.  and are totally fixated on ovulation....so it's all good. I barely know what some of the acronyms mean ...you are not alone.  So....happy babymaking to you and yours...or babyconfirming or whatever stage you are on!
