Non-typical activites for visitors?

Thought I'd rack your brain for some non-typical things to do when visiting San Diego. Friends of friends are coming to town, and I want to give them something besidse the obvious "Seaworld" or "Zoo" things to do. Any suggestions? They have 2 little kiddo's, too.

Thanks!

Re: Non-typical activites for visitors?

  • what about the tide pools in la jolla?  educational, yet fun to see sea creatures.

legoland, the ships downtown that you can tour (midway? and if there's not a lightrail where they're from, the kids may like the trolley ride), hot air balloon ride over del mar/ solana beach area, body world is at natural history museum (don't know how old the kids are, so maybe not).

    HTH :)

  • Go Car San Diego is a lot of fun.  It is a GPS go cart that you drive around and the car tells you about the different sites and you can stop and hang out.  It can be pricey but if you are a member of Gold Start Events (it's free and you just sign up on their website) they usually have really great deals.

There is also the Childrens Museum downtown. www.thinkplaycreate.org

ETA:  don't bother clicking the "thing to do".  it just comes up w/ ads.  but the ideas are fun.
