New to the Area

Hi! I am new here. H and I will be moving to Tucson this summer from texas. H grew up there, but I wanted to introduce myself and say hi.

Re: New to the Area

  • Welcome!  The board is normally quiet, but if you got questions everyone here is very helpful!

    What brings you to Tucson?

  • Welcome!  What a great time of the year to be moving here.  ;)

BTW I love your color-coordinated get-away car.  You guys look great it in!
  • H got a new job in Tucson, which is why we will be moving. I have spent plenty of time in Tucson and Phoenix in July and August so I know what we are getting ourselves into :o)
  • I Love the car too. I really wanted to take it home with us!

  • Welcome! What side of town will you be moving to? H and I are in midtown and we love it. What will you be doing when you move here? You mention hubby's job, but what do you do for a living?

  • Welcome! As PP said, this bored is really quiet, i.e. slow. But we get the job done when someone asks a question.

You said you have been here and in Phoenix for our summers, so you know. Get ready for the heat!

  • Hello - We moved to Tucson in the summer too - make sure you find the nearest pool quick!  Good luck with the move. You'll love Tucson - if not right away, it will grow on you.
  • Just wanted to say "hi"!

  • I am a speech therapist and I already have a job lined up contracting out through schools in Tucson. I am excited about it! H is a computer programmer.

I think we are going to try and live in Vail, Corona de Tucson, or Rita Ranch. We want to be in the Vail school district for SS. He has friends there and we have heard nothing but good things about their schools. I have no idea what side of town that is, but my MIL lives off of Catalina Highway so I know that little area some what. I have a GPS system and I will definately get my moneys worth!

  • Just curious - Is you H going to to be at Raytheon or IBM?  H and I are at IBM.  I figure those are the two biggies for programmers.

You can't go wrong with the areas you mentioned moving to - those are the places to be right now!

  • H will be working for a company that has a 5 year contract with Raytheon. He will be working at Raytheon, but not technically for them. Does that make sense?
  • I teach in TUSD and I can tell you, you will have LOTS of work contracting out with us... we are so desperate for quality STs!

I have friends who live in the SE area where you are talking and they really love it... it's becoming more full and congested, but the houses are still really well priced. Becareful buying out there, make sure you check the warranties and stuff. A few friends have been burned with warranty stuff and not getting what they thought they bought.

Good luck!!! :) Tucson is a really nice place, make sure you do the touristy stuff and get to know the area. DH and I really enjoyed getting out there and just checking stuff out like Fourth Ave, Mt. Lemmon, Desert Museum, Sabino Canyon, and you've gotta do the nerdy stuff like Old Tucson Studios at least once! :)
If you tell us the kind of restaraunts and stuff you guys like, we can give you some pointers, these girls are great at answering questions!

  • Wow ppl are actually writing on this board. . . welcome, I live near Rita Ranch and its nice and not as much traffic as mid-town :) Hope you enjoy Tucson I grew up here and not planning to ever move so there must be something good going on here
  • Hey! Cool so your H is an engineer?  My husband does contracting work around town, and also works for a smaller engineering company.  We live in Vail (old spanish trail/camino loma alta) and surprisingly love it out here. We grew up in NW tucson, so it's far from my H's family, but it's so pretty out here that we ended up staying.
Anyway, we know a lot of Raytheon people through our church. Let me know if you need anything!
