Visiting soon... Recommendations?

Hi ladies! I will be visiting Tucson and Sierra Vista over Memorial Day to see my DH. (He's at Huachuca) I am looking for a nice place to eat dinner. Nothing to extravagant or expensive, but nicer than typical chain restaraunts. Any suggestions? Also, I will be moving out in late June. How bad is the weather. I hear Monsoon Season quite frequently, but really how bad is it? Any other info you could send my way would be great. Thanks!

Re: Visiting soon... Recommendations?

  • Do you want to go to dinner near Huachuca or in Tucson? It is a little ways away. I love a local chain in AZ called Sauce. It is pizza, salads, etc. You order at the counter, go sit down, and they bring you your food. I love it. As far as monsoon season. Yeah it does rain, but it is usually in the afternoons and it only lasts for a couple of months. There can be flash floods, but again, it doesn't last forever. Remember that you are moving out here during some of the hottest times of the year. During the fall, winter, and spring, the weather is perfect!!! Of course, this is my humble opinion. HTH
  • There's a little Italian restaurant in Sierra Vista called Vinnie's. They have the best hot wings in the world, and their pizza and other stuff is pretty great too. It's not a formal restaurant, but it's a fun place to go to.

The monsoon season here is beautiful. It's my favorite time of the year. IMO, it's really cool when it rains, because the temp will drop from about 110? to about 80? in just a few minutes when a storm comes, and all the wildlife comes out & the plants wake up and start blooming. The rains can be very violent, and the streets in Tucson generally don't have good drainage, so it's best to stay put if a storm hits when you're away from home.  But really, the monsoon season is nothing to be afraid of.
  • I lived in Sierra Vista for a year.  I really didn't care for their restaurants.  BUT...the small neighboring towns have some.  Bisbee, about 30 minutes (a lot closer than Tucson!!!).....GREAT Italian restaurant called Rosa's Little Italy.  Small, quaint, owners are from Chicago (use their Grandma's recipes), romantic....AND!!-you can bring your own bottle of wine! Just be sure to tell your husband to call and make reservations.....very limited seating.  It is so reasonably priced there, though!!! The meal comes with THE BEST focacia bread, soup, salad, main course.  Owners grow their own rosemary, so it is served with everything.  Please, please give this restaurant a try, while you stay in the area!!! And, you need to see Bisbee, anyway....definitely, an experience!!!!

In Hereford, the best Mexican in the area----Ricardos---and, the best Margaritas in Southeast AZ!!!!  Just ask for Hornitos in them!!!

Oh, wait!!  In Sierra Vista...if you like weird, exotic....The Peacock...it's vietamese food.  The owner lady is hilarious.  She has lived in Sierra Vista for like 30 years.  Their dishes can be HOT, but they are labeled if they are.
