Hi all!!
Wow! this is a great site. I just fould out about this site not to long ago. I was told it's great for newlyweds and married folk..:-) since I am a newlywed ( 108 days married) I thought I would come check it out. :-)
I do need a little help with something...
We just bought a house and I am so lost. I need paint, furniture, and ... heck everything!!! help!! what should I do first!
Re: hi all!! I'm new!
Definitely paint first. That way you don't have to worry about ruining your new furniture with the paint. I would go by a lowes or home depot and go get some paint cards and decide what colors you want. Once you paint everything then try and go one room at a time with the decorating and furniture. That way if you run out of steam (or funds) you don't have many rooms half done, rather a few rooms not done at all. Most important rooms in my opinion are living room and dining room because that's where you entertain, then master bedroom because that's were you and your husband sleep. After that tackle the guest rooms or office depending on what you have.

First of all...WELCOME!
I agree with LTF, painting first is crucial. I loved how helpful the paint guys at Home Depot were, they told we what kind of base to get and then mixed the colors, did you know that you need a different base for the kitchen so its easier to clean?!?! We did our living room and bedroom first, painted then furnished. Buying furniture can get really expensive so decide which rooms you will use the most and furnish those first. We started out with an entertainment unit and a futon, so I know exactly what needing everything is like. Shop around and buy good quality furniture. You may pay more, but it will last a whole lot longer.
After the living room and bedroom, then we bought a kitchen table and chairs. We eat in front of the TV most nights anyway, so that wasn't a huge priority. Good luck and CONGRATS on being a newlywed!
If you're going to paint a room dark, like red, green, or blue, I'd suggest going to a paint specialty store like Sherwin Williams. They have a better quality paint for dark ones.
DH and I got our washer, dryer, refrig, and first couch at Bon Marche. It's a discount store on the Westbank. They're all in good working order and we bought them in 2004. Our second couch we bought from Rooms To Go Outlet on the Westbank. It was a steal!!

Thank you guys!!! I just sit in that house and look around asking myself what first! Thank god my mom had a few furniture items she didn't want anymore. We took those!! lol. If not, we would be sitting on the floor or those boxes we just moved in! lol..
Last night I cooked for the fist time in the house and it felt great!
We find ourselves in the same spot. We just bought a home in Metairie, and we were gonna paint and get tile/ stained concrete flooring/ wood flooring, and do all kinds of decor stuff. The house we got was all done in Mardi Gras colors (which i think is awesome), and we have murals painted on the walls (which i love), but it feels like we are staying in someone elses house. We want it to feel like its ours by incorporating some of our personal style while preserving some of what the original owners did, because they did an awesome job! Any suggestions?
