Anyone recommend their OB/Gyn??

I have posted this question on the "SA Bump" board, but thought I could give this a shot as well.  Sorry to be a bother, I moved from Austin around a year ago and I will soon be in need of a new doctor.  As of now, I would just need a dr. for my annual visit.  However, my husband and I are going to start trying for a baby this month (TMI, I'm sorry!!)  So who knows, maybe by the time I need to go for my annual in June, it'll be for OB needs as well??  Wishful thinking, I know!  I think I will probably have to schedule soon to get in for June, right?  Don't most offices have a wait of some sort?  My Gyn in Austin was a woman, but I'm not stuck on having a woman here in SA.  I'm willing to go to anyone that comes highly recommended.  I know it's hard to say you really like your ObGyn, but I'm just waiting for someone to tell me they do so I will feel confident in my switch.  I know I'm going to be one of those pregnant woman who asks tons of questions and will need a great support system, so a good nursing staff/ nurse practitioner would be great as well.  Any good advice is so appreciated... names of practices, doctors, experiences, etc.  Thanks in advance!!!

  • I DO really like my OB/GYN! lol. Dr. Mark Funk with UT Medicine. He's a guy, but he's gay, so I don't feel awkward about it being a guy at all. he's super nice, funny, and a great doctor. He's really easy to talk to and very thorough (in a good way). His office is at Datapoint & Fredericksburg.
  • Lonestar OBGYN. There are several Drs on staff and they have midwives if you want to go that route.

  • I am going to private message you someone I don't recommend.
  • Sounds good, thanks for the advice!  If anyone else has anymore suggestions, I'm still open to them :)  I'm an idiot and fairly new to this site, how do I know if I get a private message and where do I check for it??  Thank you!

  • :o) on the left, under the list of all of the boards, there is a link that says "Check Private Messages"
  • I love, love, love my OB. Her name is Dr. Ketheriddy and she's one of the doctors at Lonestar OBGYN. She was great during pregnancy and delivery and has a great sense of humor.
  • I like mine, his name is Dr. Robert Young (not to be confused with the plastic surgeon Dr. Young!). He's over on Ewing Hassel. He's older and delivered two of my cousins, so I feel very comfortable with him.

  • Thank you everyone for your advice on a doctor!  Now, if we can just keep the recs coming, I'm still having trouble deciding.  I feel like it would be a big waste of time to get in with a doctor for the first time, especially a 1st pregnancy appt. and not like them.  You know, to go through all of the questions and testing, only to want a different doc in the end???  I'm just putting too much thought into this, aren't I?  Have a good night!

No, I don't think you're over thinking it. When I moved to SA, I was scared to death to find a new "girl doctor" because I didn't want just anyone looking down there. The only reason I chose a man is because he was recommended by family and they all loved him. I think you should take your time with these things so you can find the right doc for you.

  • I had my second appointment with my new OB yesterday - Dr. Robin Womack at Northeast OB/Gyn.  I just love her.  She is really patient with questions, talks like a real person, and is reassuring.  I am so glad I switched.
  • Good to know Paisley, glad that you found one you like!!  I have actually heard other good things about Dr. Womack and the NE Ob/Gyn practice.  How was the nursing staff and the office, was it pleasant??  Where is her office and do you know which hospitals she is affilitated with?
  • My OBGYN is Dr. Farhart (he's male) with NE-OBGYN. I no complaints at all.... Dr. Farhart and his staff are wonderful... that said, I'm probably the most low?maintenance?patient ever- I never even called them (like w/ questions or concerns) during my pregnancy. ;)

Dr. Theis (sp?) delivered Elise (Farhart was oot) and Dr. Thompson was my OB post-delivery in the hospital. Both were great as well. ?

  • The staff is nice.  It seems like the same nurse will always bring me into the room, and the lab staff was nice, quick, and painless for my glucose test.  When I was setting up my appointment, since I was already pregnant and a transfer patient, the lady had to get Dr. Womack's okay, but it was quick and she was really nice about it.

I go to the NEOBGYN in Stone Oak attached to North Central Baptist, so I will deliver there.  The practice's website is ne-obgyn.com.

  • I go to Marissa Largoza (sorry I can't remember the practice name) and LOVE her.  SHe is absolutely wonderful.
