Moving poll

Since I'm getting ready to move!

Do you pack your rooms in a certain order?
Do you pack everything in one room & then move on to the next, or pack boxes from different rooms all at once?
Any packing or moving tips for me?

Re: Moving poll

  • I hate movig, but organization is the only way to make it bearable.  I may be slighlty OCD, btu I indexed all of my boxes and labeled them by room.  I packed things based on use.  Clothes that I wore most were last, serving dishes and things I knew I wouldn't need I packed first.
  • The best tip I have: wrap your dishes and glasses in plastic bags before wrapping in newspaper.  That way they are clean when you unpack them - no need to wash.  That saves one extra step.

I generally start with stuff I will not need immediately first.  Like extra office supplies or crafts.  I pack all the boxes in the spare rooms, then move all other boxes in there to keep them out of the other rooms.

    GL!!  It's fun, but tiring!

  • whatever has the most stuff,I use the least
whatever I won't need until after the move
Pack up as much as you can in advance. Books, movies, extra towels or anything like that. Label, label, label. Nobody wants their stuff broken! When we moved into our house, I had the boxes go to whatever room the belonged to, that way I didn't have a whole room covered in boxes, and I wasn't carrying this box here or there. Plus I knew where everything was!
  • I too am moving soon and have read a couple of helpful things...

Use one room for the boxes so they are out of the way. Start from the back of the closet/cabinet and work your way out. One article said you should have everything packed and live out of a suitcase for the last week.

    GL!!

  • Do you pack your rooms in a certain order? I just started with the rooms less used (guest rooms, some of the office, living room).  I actually even packed the entire kitchen except for some cooking utensils and plates/cups, etc.

Do you pack everything in one room & then move on to the next, or pack boxes from different rooms all at once? I tried to start with all seperate but then I would end up with a box from one room half full and then eventually everthing got mixed.  But I did write specifically everything in the box and that helped a lot.  I literally detailed everything instead of it just saying "Office" so I knew that if I needed a pair of scissors I could read the box to see which one they were in instead of opening all 6 or so boxes and searching everyone.

Any packing or moving tips for me? See above.  Also, I used things in the house to pack breakables.  Things like towels, and a lot of old tshirts that were going to Goodwill after the move.  Cuts back on all the bubble wrap and newspapers.
  • Do you pack your rooms in a certain order? I try, but it really ends up being things I can live without for a few days, first; then essentials last.
Do you pack everything in one room & then move on to the next, or pack boxes from different rooms all at once? Again, I try, but I try to keep all the boxes together.  So, as I finish a room I pile/stack all the boxes togther in one place.
Any packing or moving tips for me? Label all your boxes, so you know exactly what's in each one!  Newspaper is great for wadding up and packing between your breakables.  Pack things you'll need right away towards the top of the box so you can get to it easier.  Don't overpack a box - you don't want it too heavy to move.

    Good luck moving! [h]
