Poll: shower and wedding gifts

I was FLOORED when we discussed how much people spent on shower and wedding gifts on my club board.  One girl in AL said they do not give wedding gifts, only shower.  Other people spend around $100 for a shower gift and $500-700 for the wedding!!!!!!!!

So, that made me think maybe I am totally off base.  How much do you spend on each?

Me, shower: $20-30 (maybe less if I'm not really close to the bride)

wedding $40-100, again depending on how close we are to the couple.

I usually do 30-50 for showers and 50-100 for weddings, depending on closeness to the person.

Do you all go off the registry or buy something different??
I always try to get something " fun" or that I know will remind them of me, using the registry!

It really depends on how close we are to the couple.  For the two weddings we're going to this summer, one is a former employee of DH's and the other is one of DH's best friends (DH is the best man).  We haven't been invited yet to the former employee's shower(s) so I'll probably spend about $40 - $50 on a wedding gift for her.  For the wedding that DH is in, I'll spend a little bit more, probably closer to $100.  I don't know yet if we're invited to a shower for that couple.
