Hi!  :)  Thanks again for all of your help.  DH accepted the position in late February.  He made the move March 30th into corporate housing (Creve Coeur).  I am going to continue teaching in GA through April 25th, then move up.

I am on spring break this week & am visiting the area.  DH went out with our realtor last week & I am going to go out with her again tomorrow.  He found 2 homes that he liked in O'Fallon which I will see tomorrow.  There are a few others on the list that I will look at tomorrow; I believe most of them are in O'Fallon, St. Charles, or St. Peters.

About the doctor thing....I might give your doctor a call today.  Do you happen to know if she's taking new patients?  I LOVED my doctor in GA; knowing he wouldn't be the one I'd finish my prenatal care/labor/delivery with was actually the biggest issue I had with the move.  So, I respect his opinion about Dr. McBride (the OB), but I guess he wouldn't know about her coworkers.  (My dr. did his residency @ St. John's, so he knew her from there.)  Yesterday when I called to make my first appointment with her, the appointmenst lady was slightly rude.  I sort of chalked it up to moving away from 'southern hospitality', but it sat with me a little bit and that's when I posted the question below.  Anyway, I think I will ask my dr. for some other names, too.

Anyway, bring on the advice for the new area if you have any.  I'd really appreciate any input you can give me.  I gotta say, I've never lived in such a large city & I am getting really nervous about figuring my way around the area, LOL.

Re: amy.matt

  • not to hijack your post to amy - but if you are even temporaily living in creve coeur and looking at ofallon mo, then you are going to want a doctor that is north. the doctor she mentions is south. i think without traffic it would be a 40 minute drive. in traffic, you could easily be looking at 1 1/2 hours. I would make a new post and ask for a doc rec for those who live north.
i think the closest hospital to you in creve coeur is st. johns and missouri baptist (they are across from each other). there are plenty of good docs there! I work on a post partum floor and 90% of the nurses there see dr. tim philpott. he is said to have the best bed side manor. they all love him. here is his info. his office is at the hospital (mo bap) and he delivers there.

  • I have to hijack the post as well.  I go to the same OB as Amy and like Angelina said, she is well south of where you will be.  At least a 30-40m drive.  You might also want to check out Dr. Angela Cartwright at DePaul (don't necessarily recommend delivering there but that's where her office is)  Also you might want to consider, Dr. Elisabeth Huelskoetter, or Dr. Jamie Puckett.

  • Hello! sorry for the delay, but i can't check this site from work (darn firewalls!) I would have to agree with the above posts.  As much as I love my OB, if you're going to be living in O'Fallon or St. Charles, it would be really out of your way.  I'd call the doctors recommended above.  I actually heard about Dr. McBride (ped) from the many wonderful girls on this board, but she's 2 minutes from my house.  I will tell you from mommy experience, you want a Ped close to where you live.  You'll be there a lot! :-)  Even if it's just for the well baby visits when he/she is first born, that's still every week or every couple weeks.  My sister lives in O'Fallon (Winghaven) and really likes it.  For me, personally, it's too out of the way for all my friends and family, but it's a great area and really booming!  You should be able to find a lot of great and affordable homes in that area.  And, if your DH is working in Creve Coeur, that wouldn't be a bad commute at all (considering the massive traffic from my area BOO!)

Also, My OB (Dr Collins) would also be really far out of your way :-(  (I forgot to mention this above).  Regarding the Ped, i just met w/a couple of them and decided on the one i thought i could ask the stupidest questions to and he/she wouldn't make me feel like a moron.  And, Dr. McBride won that prize! LOL.

St. John's is where i delivered and it's considered the "baby factory" in this city, but i'd rather deliver somewhere that did it 100 times a day! LOL  Plus, St. John's has the NICU on site, god forbid, you should need it.  My neighbor is actually headed there tonight to be induced w/her second. :-)

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I'll help as much as I can!  if there's anything you don't want to post here, my email is amadura at charter dot net. I can't check that email during the day (again, firewalls!) but i check it several times a night.  Feel free to email any time!

  • I'll 3rd the hijacking.

I can't agree with Angelina1003 more. Dr. Philpott is my OB and he was absoultely amazing in delivering our son, Parker, two months ago. I *promise* you will be in great hands with Dr. Philpott.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thanks for all of the help, ladies!!  I am in awe of the size of this sprawling city, LOL.  I've pretty much decided on St. John's as my delivery site; Amy, I'm with you in terms of having the NICU onsite.  I will try giving Dr. Philpot a call later today.  I've also read good things about Dr. Boyd on here, so I will try him as well.  Thanks again!!  :)
