Sewing classes?

Took a class at Fenton Sew and Vac in Gravois Bluffs but looking for another.  The girl teaching it did so much of it for us and little explaining (didn't realize that would make it so much harder at the time) that now I really don't know how to "read" a pattern.  I'm remaking the project we did, but it's just from memory.  I looked at the pattern directions and don't understand them at all.  Anyone have a good one they'd recommend?  TIA.

Re: Sewing classes?

  • You might check with a Joann's fabric store.  If they don't offer them, I bet they might know who does.  Or try Winstons Sewing Center in Ballwin.  We bought a new sewing machine for my mom there and I remember seeing the classroom setup in there.

  • I know St. Louis Community College has some extension sewing classes (I took a quilting class a few years ago & it was at a high school using their sewing machines)
  • make that Continueing Ed classes.  Their new schedule is suppsed to be up at 10 am this morning:

  • I bought my sewing machine from Jackman's Fabrics over the summer.  I have had a few individual lessons (free since I bought my machine from them), but they offer many classes each month.  Check out their website www.jackmansfabrics.com .  I plan on taking a some classes over the next few months.
  • I second Jackmans. I have been in there a few times and there is aways someone in there teaching someone about sewing.
  • Jackman's is great for basic sewing classes.  If you want to go for quilting, there is a great class at Susie Q's Quilting in downtown Eureka.  They have a nationally known quilt designer teaching and she is fabulous.  I took the class last year - 8 3 hour classes, that take you from knowing nothing to a completed quilt.  Check out www.susieqquilts.com  Have fun sewing!
