Husband's Birthday

My DH's Birthday is coming up on March 14th, which is a Friday before all the St. Patty's Day hoopla.  I have taken my husband to dinner at Cheesecake Factory for the last 3 years.

I was wanting to switch it up this year.  Can anyone think of any other fun places to go?  I try to always treat him to a great dinner.  I was thinking that the Melting Pot might be fun (Per Recommendation, have never been there myself).

Any thoughts on The Melting Pot or thoughts on any other places would be greatly appreciated :)

Re: Husband's Birthday

  • We're going to Juniper Grill on Friday - I haven't been there but its highly recommended.  Other places: Sage, Big Sky Cafe, Blue Water Grill, Mosaic, Momo's, Vin de Set, Frazer's Brown Bag, Bugaloo, Kitchen K.

All of these are nicer places that have a good atmosphere.

  • I really like the Melting Pot, but will never take Dh there -- he is really impatient & the "cooking at the table" would drive him nuts, so would the 3-4 hour dinner.

For my birthday we went to Maggiano's Little Italy in the Boulevard (across from the Galleria).  The food was good & had a nice atmosphere.  I'd recommend reservations (we didn't have them, so we ate at a  table in the bar).  HUGE portions.

  • Mandy...  So great to see someone I *know* on here... check my blog and you should recognize me from highschool!

My DH took me to the Melting Pot for our first anniversary and I LOVED it!  We had the "big night out" and it was some of the best food I have had.  Plus, the whole atmosphere is wonderful!

Good luck and I hupe you have a great birthday celebration!

  • DH & I love the Melting Pot...but he does have to be willing to cook himself & sit for about 3-4 hours for dinner.  You can always do dinner somewhere else and just do the dessert, if you don't think he would be interested in doing the whole dinner...

  • I *LOVE* the Melting Pot! We went for our 1st and 2nd anniversaries (the 3rd we were in Mexico, oh darn! haha). I think it's a lot of fun and is very romantic too. I am always begging DH to take me there. :)
  • I also love the melting pot!  DH and I love being able to sit for a couple of hours and enjoy the fondue.  But, like some of the posts above, I realize that isn't everyone's idea of a good time.

Have you heard of Cyrano's in Webster Groves?  I have only ever been for dessert, but it's a really cozy and romantic atmosphere.  There are also some cute places in Lafayette Square that I think would be fun to check out.

Another favorite of mine is Vito's - it's right by SLU and the Fox.

    Enjoy and have fun!

  • DH & I also went to the Melting Pot for our 1st anniversary and loved it!  If you make the reservation early enough they have private booths that add to the romance.  We had the "Big Night Out" too and it was very good.  But unlike the pp's I don't remember it taking 3-4 hours? I would guess more like 2-2 and a half hours.

  • I must be in the minority - melting pot is just blah.  Very overpriced and the food is just so so.

Seriously there are a ton of restaurants that locally owed that are young, fun, good food.  Try something different!

  • I'm a big fan of Cafe Napoli...always great food, and reasonable (for a nice night out) prices.  Or you could hit Top of the Riverfront, where you can see into Busch Stadium, which is a novelty.

There is a great restaurant out in St. Alban's called Malmaison, and it's a fun, special drive...you can surprise him with the place and drive out there for it.  It's a beautiful area, and they have a great indoor space as well as outdoor space with a huge fireplace (obviously not great for now unless you sit right next to the fireplace).

You could also do the "tour"--hit one place for appetizers, one place for entrees, and do one place for dessert (Cyrano's is great for dessert).

Just kind of depends on what food HE really likes...I can make more suggestions!
