Talk about crappy weather here! :)

It is just horrible outside! I am so glad I am off work this week and don't have to deal with it! My sister tried to go to work but the sleet was freezing on her windshield as soon as it hit so she ended up staying home. It took DH well over a half hour to get from our house to the highway (we live at Hwy K & Hwy N and he was heading up to 40, which normally only takes a few minutes). 40 was like a parking lot so I believe he is turning around and heading back home too. My friend was supposed to come over and cut my hair and see our new house today but obviously that's not going to happen. I was really looking forward to catching up with her (and getting my hair chopped off, haha).

This weather is just horrible...this stuff is so dangerous, so much worse than snow!

I hope you can all stay home or if you can't, that you are very careful and make it to where you are going safely!

Re: Talk about crappy weather here! :)

  • It is just nasty out!  We haven't closed yet.  They usually wait until it is the absolutely worst time then send us home.  I only have 3 miles to go.  Hope they get the roads salted!!!!

    Everyone be careful!

  • I agree!   They're supposed to make decisions about closing down by 5:30am in the morning. I didn't get my phone call so by 6:00am I get up, shower and headed off to work.  I am litterly 8 minutes away from work but it took me over 45 minutes to get there...speaks volumes of how crappy the roads are.  And you're right, the sleet was freezing to my windshield making it difficult to see. Lesson learned i need new windshield wipers.  However once I got no the highways it wasn't *as bad* as it could've been, at least I could go 20 and be fine...the outer roads though not as nice.

Random question: MO-DOT keeps telling people to stay home or staff off the roads...hello!? Isn't that their job to be out there keeping the roads safe, we can't "choose" to go to work...

Continuing my story: So i walk into the building and everyone's leaving...what? Where are you going?  OH they're all leaving for the day!!  Now, we have a phone chain where the managers call all the lower people....I never got a phone call....Three minutes later I get a phone call "Jennie don't leave home........"   to which I reply I had to be at work at 7:30 this morning so i'm already here.... UGH...so I turned around and drove back home. Now it only took me 1/2 hour to get home becaus eI wasn't going WITH the traffic....but i'm still a little annoyed.

    Okay Vent over.

  • That is so annoying!  Our work sends out a message by 6:30 am to all our voice mails so we don't clog up the phone lines with everyone calling in.  I hate phone chains -- they never work well.
  • Jennie - how annoying!! In this crap it doesn't matter if you live 8 miles or 80. A phone call still would have been nice. I haven't even been out in this stuff. Woke up this morning, was going to carpool with DH (I'm a big baby when it comes to driving in ice), and saw that it was just going to get worse and said nope I'm just working from home. I love that freedom (this is a new freedom that came with a new job). hehe Everyone stay safe if you have to be out!!
  • Actualy i'm very thankful that they're allowing people to stay home today..VERY THANKFUL...because people don't need to be out driving in this mess.
  • I'm a teacher, so I was off work today, but now it feels like the school year will never end!!!

DH and I went out a couple of times today, and the side roads weren't "that" bad, but Mid Rivers Mall Drive was pretty bad, even at 5 pm it looked like it had not been plowed even once. We live near Mid Rivers and Hwy 94, and that intersection is an accident waiting to happen tonight!
