Things for kids

Hi gals, I recently moved to this area and my niece and mephew who are 2 and 4 are coming to visit in a couple of weeks.  I was wondering if you might be able to suggest some great stuff we can do while there here.  I would love to take them to the zoo, but it might be a little chilly.  Anything thought you have would be great. TIA

Re: Things for kids

  • There are a TON of things you can do with them!  The STL Science Center, The Magic House, The City Museum, there are much more things but that's all I've got off the top of my head.
  • With Children 2 and 4, be careful with trips to the City Museum and Magic House, there are a lot of big kids that love to run around and tend to trample the little ones.  Also, if weather gets up to the 50s or 60s, don't count out going to the Zoo.  When it is colder, all the animals are really active and start running around, plus the crowds are pretty much non-existant.  It is a fun experience if you don't have to bundle up too much.

Unfortunately, a lot of the fun stuff to do in town is geared for either the summer or for slightly older kids, but if the weather does get cold.  There are a lot or cool little things to do from Bounce U to The Painted Zebra.  They may not be specific to St. Louis, but the kids can still enjoy.
  • add the history museum, any of the sky zone places (I am not sure if there is more than one sorry but there is one out in chesterfield valley), bowling, a movie,  somebody already said my ideas of magic house and city museum.  I would say Grant's farm but it might be too chilly for that too,  Eugene Field's toy museum, and the arch.
  • First, WELCOME to St. Louis!

    Now for the ideas:

Grant's Farm is great BUT they don't open for the season until April 19th.

I would suggest the Zoo even if it is a little cooler...as a PP said the crowds aren't there and the animals are out playing....you don't have to stay very long...that is one of the great things about the Zoo being free - you can stay for 30 mins or all day and it doesn't cost to get in!

I also have to agree with the PP who said that the CIty Museum may not be too great for the young ones.  I took my 2 yo and she did enjoy it but couldn't do too much.  And again like the PP said the bigger kids just ran over her!

Just across the river is the Alton Lock and Dam....maybe not that great for a 2 and 4 yo but a neat place:

    National Great Rivers Museum
This 12,000 sq. ft. museum features several exhibits about the history of the Mississippi River. Displays cover innovations in transportation technology and the environment and wildlife surrounding the area. Tours of the locks and dam at the museum site occur daily.
