What can you tell me about...
Maplewood schools and Kirkwood schools? I am sending my stuff into those two! I know my post a few weeks ago talked about Rockwood and Parkway. I've sent my stuff there too. I just am trying to figure out how I can stand out against the competition. It's only been 3 years since I have been job hunting but I know the comp is tough!
Re: What can you tell me about...
My sisters and I all graduated from Maplewood.
My nephew goes there now.
It was a smaller school when I went. There were only 56 in my graduating class. It was nice though. There are "clicks" but since it was so small everyone kinda got along. That was also 15 years ago!
My nephew seems to like it.
They have done tons of renovations to both the gade school and the high school in the past 5 years.
I transferred from Affton to Maplewood in 6th grade. At that time I was doing Geometry in 6th grad at Affton. I didn't start Geometry until 9th grade at Maplewood. But again that was 15 years ago and I know that have been "raising the bar" year after year.
Sorry, I can't offer more insight.
Good luck!
What is your specialty? What do you teach? Or what are you applying for?
I'd say, Kirkwood, and Maplewood would be two good school districts to apply to, go for it! Also, some more that come off the top of my head are Ladue, Pattonville, Francis Howell (they have a TON of positions listed on their website right now), Ritneour, Ferg-Florrisant, Mehville and Hazelwood. I would also consider any of the charter schools in the city. I've know a few teachers who are teaching with in the charter schools and said they love it! (not to be mistaken for STL public schools which is now closing several schools)
There's also http://k12recruiters.com/Home_Page.html I have a few friends who have used them. They only work with the smaller school districts, and have good relationships with them. If you want a review of them off the nest, I'd be more than happy to share (all good news)
Also, as far as finding jobs, some school districts have stopped posting on MOREAP (like they have done with openings in the past) and only started posting on their own district websites.
Good luck in the job hunt!
I don't know anything about hiring at Maplewood, but I do know that Kirkwood gets tons of applicants for most jobs. What position are you applying for? A friend of mine applied for a social studies job at the high school, and he was told that he was one of over 200 applicants for the job! Make sure you read the job description carefully and highlight specifics in your resume and cover letter that match what they wrote in the job description. That will put you higher on their list of candidates.
Good Luck!
Ugh How embarassing. I want to crawl under a rock! Somehow with this stupid computer my attachments didn't work to Kirkwood. HR emailed saying there were no attachments. I'm sure they put a big fat X on my name. ahhh I can't believe I did that!
I will look into the other districts right now!
