SD bio or link?

Before I barrage you with my questions about SD, I saw mention of a SD bio?  Is this up and running?  Thanks if you can point me in the right direction.

But if its not up and running, we're headed to SD in June  and thinking about a hotel in the Hillcrest area.  We realize its a diverse area, or as my un-PC stepmom said, "its gay town".  Ugh.  We just want to know if its a safe, friendly area.  We have a young son (he'll be 19 months by then).  I think the hotel is the Somerset?  Any thoughts on that area?

Re: SD bio or link?

  • Don't know the hotel, but it's a great area. Pretty safe. Don't walk down a dark alley at midnight, but I wouldn't do that anywhere. I've never felt scared there. Lot's of great restaurants and cute shops. Close to downtown, Balboa Park, etc.
  • The somerset is right in the heart of HIllcrest, but also right by the highway. It's central to all the fun shopping and restaurants. There's so much to do!

Just so you are aware, the gaslamp is a cab away from Hillcrest, not really walking distance.

My fav restaurant in Hillcrest is Kemo Sabe and for a family dining try Corvette Diner.

  • I have to laugh at the "gay town" comment.  Thats the only reason why my mom LET US hang out down there in high school--she knew that the majority of the men WOULD NOT try to hit on us!!

If you are a foodie, its a great part of town to be in.  Tons of restaurants with pretty much every type of food imaginable.
  • So many great resturants there!

I'm a Minnesota native too!  Hope you enjoy your visit.  If you're coming June 1,2,3 - the Temecula Balloon and Wine fest will be happening.  It's about an hour away, but we had a blast.  I saw kids there when I went.  It gets hot though.

     Have a great vacation.
