traffic light question

I just got a new job, and everyday on my way home and  to the freeway there is a left hand turn arrow to get onto the freeway.  Well turns out, right when I get off work the trolley passes on the other side of the light and my left hand turn starts blinking red.  Does this mean it turns into a stop and I can turn or do I have to wait until it actually turns green? A lot of people do make this turn on red and I've gotten honked at, but I don't know if they are just impatient or if you can actually turn.

Help.  Thanks.

Re: traffic light question

  • i can't find my ca driver handbook.  i believe that you can turn left on a red arrow one way street to one way street.
google "ca dmv" & look @ the handbook online.  it'll let ya know what to do.  it sucks to be honked @!  :)
  • didn't think of that...here is for any of you that might want to know, from the ca dmv site.

Red Arrow- A red arrow means "STOP". Remain stopped until the green signal or green arrow appears. Do not turn against a red arrow.

flashing redFlashing Red- A flashing red signal light means "STOP." After stopping, you may proceed when it is safe. Observe the right-of-way rules.

  • Good to know.  :)
