what would you pay for daycare in your area?

dh and I might be moving to La Jolla next winter.... just wondering what daycare prices are in that/your area? Also, what would you pay perday or per hour to have a mother with a phd in biophysics, and trained in cpr, ect, to watch your child? I was thinking.... hoping... maybe... id be able to stay home with dd if I watched one or two other children a couple of hours/days a week....
anyone?

Re: what would you pay for daycare in your area?

  • I just emailed a freind that used to do this.  She said (about four years ago) she charged $30.00 per day per kid and she included the food with this.  She also said that she was on the cheper side.  I have no idea what this goes for now.  I don't have any kids yet.

  • Daycare run's the gamut here.  I have seen as low as $160 per week (mainly in "home" settings) to as high as over $250 per week (in traditional daycares).  IMHO I wouldn't pay you to watch my kids (sorry if that sounds rude, it's not meant to be).  I would only go with someone state certified, but that is just me.  Maybe you could look into doing that if you really want to stay home with your DD?  Good luck!
  • I have a 9month old and have researched this extensively. We are currently paying $185/week for a home daycare with 4 other kids. Food is provided (though we bring our own). We are contemplating a move to Discovery Isle, a large center that costs $1435/mo for infants. $1300/mo for toddlers. We are only doing this as home daycare has not been super reliable and we both have careers that are pretty rigid in regards to schedule.
  • Your kids are really cute.
Is there something you can do that utilizes your degree? There's three universities in the area. The pay may be better, and if you can't work from home, a lot of universities have onsite daycare.
I think a lot of people look for that certification -- though it might not be too hard for you to get, even for a home daycare of four kids you might have to have a license.
