Re: Regarding vendors...
I personally think it's find to have people's business site in their signature, whether it is their esty site, real estate site, or even wedding vendor site. There are alot of talented knot/nest users that have their own businesses that are simply interested in the boards if they are getting married, etc. There are also knot/nest users that have great connections to services because of their business and are all too eager to share, and that's fine. If you're not interested, don't click on it, and if you do and are "offeneded", don't use their services.
However, I don't think it's fair to pose as a regular knot/nest user getting married, etc., and provide information about "how wonderful your photographer was at your wedding", when you seceretly are the vendor. That's misleading, and not anyone I would want to do business with. But don't waste your breath and effort trying to stop these people or yell at them till your blue. Simply ignore them and handle it in a mature manner.
Flame away, I'm sure someone will have their own strong opinions on my thoughts.

Word of mouth from people who have used that knottie/nestie is way better advertising than self promotion
