??? about visiting SD this weekend

Hi ladies!  I live in Phoenix and am driving out this weekend.  I'm very familar with the weather usually (we got married on Coronado in July) but I'm trying to figure out exactly what to pack for this weekend.  Last year when I came in April it was very chilly, but my cousin was there 2 weeks ago and it was warm.

BTW- we're driving out in a convertible (car in siggy), and will be at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a car show.  SO, I'll be outside most of the day.  Can I get away with capris/shorts or is it too cold still?????

TIA ladies!

  • Does your car have a top? Last I heard....rain was on its way.
  • It has a top, but it's not 100% waterproof and  there are no windows (except the windshield).  We keep checking the forecast and it now says rain tomorrow, but none over the weekend.  It's says highs 65-71, is that warm for SD?  It's 85 here in Phoenix, so 65-71 sounds chilly to me!

  • You just never know this time of year here. It could be sunny and warm and then rain and cloudy 2 days later. Keep checking the forecast...

  • Yeah...I would keep watching the weather reports...the last few rain storms have been a few days late (but more mild than predicted, so that is good for you). It is not cold, per se, but in the evenings, the ocean air is moist and feels a lot colder than it is. Jeans and a windbreaker will be just fine.
  • Ok, thanks!  I'll keep an eye on the forecast, but I'll probably check back in with you guys on Thursday.  I trust your opinions more than a random forecast on a website!

  • Totally true. I will keep an eye out for you on Thursday. Just as an FYI...weather.com has been very accurate for me using the 92128 zip code :)
  • Pack for both warm and cool, bring layers, and bring sunscreen. Besides, even if it is nice and warm during the day it is so early in the year that the nights will still be cold. Better to bring a couple extra clothing items and be prepared than to be suprised. We want you to have fun out here and be comfortable.

  • I just got back from the Padre game and i was freezing!  I wore a long sleeve thermal type shirt and a jacket.  Bring warm clothes for the evening if you plan to be near the beach.

  • We'll also be at the car show on Sunday. The weather has been a bit cooler. I've been wearing pants and a light cardigan. The rain isn't going to stick around this weekend. Should be here and gone by tonight (Wed).

Del Mar Fairgrounds are usually hotter because it's all asphalt and not much of a breeze because of the exhibition halls that line the area.

I'm wearing jeans, sandals a tshirt and hat. I won't take a sweater because after walking I will be warm enough. Have fun!
