Relocated to Mirmar, Ca

my husband and I have recently moved from camp lejeune to miramar. We are currently looking for a place to live and have found ourselves completely overwhelmed by choices. We have heard to stay above I-8 and East of the 15th. We are curious if anyone knows anyone, such as a realitor. we are actually intrested in just renting, atleast for a year. we looked at a few apartments and got a great deal at prominence luxury apartments in san marcos but we are a little worried about the commute-just curious if anyone lives there or knows anything about the communte in the area. we are not keeping our searches to this apartment complex or any apartments-we are very intrested in houses/town homes that are pet friendly since we own two westies. ANY help, would be useful!!! I would greatly appreciate it!

I know a few nesties who live close to Miramar. They might be able to help with exact complexes. I do know that traffic on the 15 isn't the greatest so staying closer to the base would probably be your best bet (probably why north of the 8 was suggested). I don't see any difference in east of the 15 vs. west of the 15 if you stay close to the 15.

I used to live in Carmel Mountain Ranch, which isn't too far from Miramar.  The area was nice and there were a ton of shopping amd restaurants around there.  This is the complex I lived in:

hi neighbour!    I live right in that area!  We're in Scripps Ranch - we own a townhouse but there are plenty of apartments around here.  Scripps is right off the 15, just east of Mira Mesa so it's close to EVERYTHING! 
There are dogs all over the place here so I'm sure you'll have an easy time finding a pet-friendly complex

You might also want to check Tierrasanta - I know there are many people who are at Miramar who live there.

I would tell you not to take the apartment in San Marcos.  The commute is hell coming down I-15 in the morning (and going back up that way in the afternoon)!  I've also heard that apartment complex is right next to the university and full of crazy college kids!

Rancho Penasquitos, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Poway, and Rancho Bernardo are also really nice areas that are just a little further north but still close enough to Miramar that the commute would not be too bad! 
I lived in Rancho Bernardo for YEARS - there are quite a lot of condo/townhome complexes; Carmel Mountain Ranch and Penasquitos also have lots of apartments.

North County (Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, San Marcos) are NOT that bad if you commute during the off hours.  Rent in Escondido and San Marcos tends to be MUCH cheaper than Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Mountain Ranch, and Mira Mesa. 

Have you checked out Craigslist yet for house and condo rentals?  I know that where I live (old escondido) there are quite a few cute little homes for rent that have fenced in yards.

I live in Rancho Penasquitos, at an apartment complex right off the 15, it's called Milazzo, and there's a bunch of guys and gals from the base that live here, they used to have a website but I think it's not up any more :-S  You can probably Google Milazzo Apartments...  Oh, guess what...they have it up and running again: www.milazzoapartments.com.  I like it and it's pretty quiet most of the time :-)  You can find photos and the phone number on the web site.  We like our apartment and the complex, our only complain is that if you have an emergency at night they have never picked up the "emergency phone" or called back, but other than that it's pretty nice :-) Oh yeah, and it's pet friendly.  HTH
