I am coming to SD and need help

So, I need lots of advice.

I am coming into town for a trade show at convention center and staying at Hotel Solamar.

1.  Have some time to kill over weekend.  What should I do while in town?  I like to shop, go to beach, walk around, etc...  Any sites that should not be missed?  Where is nice beach to spend day? Places for lunch nearby.

2.  Nice places near my hotel for dinner,  money no object.

3.  I need an amazing locale for Mexican dinner with good margaritas.  I do not mind taking taxi, but prefer to not have to drive.

4.  Any good spots to grab breakfast and lunch near hotel.

  • Well your in the gaslamp area so just about anywhere you go will be good. You can even check out the Irish pub that that american idol chick worked at.

The Omni HOtel by petco part the bar rotates on the top level and is beautiful. a little pricy but not bad

For mexican food take the trolly to Old Town. Old town mexican cafe is the best Mexican food and has good margaritas. The tortillas are GREAT!

My fav sports bar is Yardhouse It's a chain, but the food is wonderful and Martini's are GREAT! It's by horton plaza on 4th and broadway (it may be 5th but you can't miss it)

If you have a chance walk to seaport village and enjoy the shops. It's a treck, but my husband and i love to walk.

    Enjoy!

  • The restaraunt at Hotel Solomar is great-awesome wine list, and graet food, if money is not object! Forget the name-it's been a while since I've been there.

Take a taxi to Old Town-Casa Guadalajara is awesome and huge margaritas!!

Cafe 222 downtown on 2nd street is a hot spot for breakfast-go early it fills up fast!

  • When are you in town? If you need company it might work out for us to meet you at Guadalajara or the Yard House for dinner/drinks.

You should see Balboa Park. Great place to walk around on the weekend. All kinds of museums, gardens, it's near the zoo. And ask where the Prado is so you can grab a cocktail and bite to eat.

  • Another fun bar over by Solomar is Basic.  It serves really good New York style pizza and the bar has an awesome atmosphere.  The Gaslamp Marriott which is by Solimar has a fun rootftop bar called Altitude which has great views.  I agree with previouse posts that the best mexican food is in Old Town however if you don't end up leaving the Gaslamp Fred's Mexican Cafe is very good for Mexican food to.
