Poll: How did you meet?

My husband and I met while we were both stationed in Japan.  We were placed on a team together to establish a new section and we had to train each other in different aspects of our jobs.  Not very romantic, but it obviously worked out well.

So, how did you and your spouse meet?

Re: Poll: How did you meet?

  • We met for the first time at my MOH parents house for a little party. I had just been through a family truama and she invited my and my boyfriend at the time over to help us relax for a night and have some fun. She felt sooo bad for inviting J over too. She kept apologizing before he even showed up for his rude behavior and harsh personality. He's not for everyone, she said. Please don't be offened by him!
J was the one who had me laughing and happy that whole night. When the boyfriend and I broke up a month later, J asked me out. The rest is history ;)

  • many (many) years ago, i was doing homework (specifically for speech class) at Starbucks. MY now DH walked in to get coffee, and sat down near me. He came over and asked to borrow the newpapaer sitting on the chair next to me...I could tell out of the corners of my eye, he really wasn't reading it! About 20 minutes later, he returned the paper and started up a conversation. We talked for about 20 minutes, and the next night, we eached returned, in hopes the other would be there. That night, we talked for hours, and at the end he asked me out on a date. And it was on that date, that I knew that this was the guy I was going to marry, it just took us alot to get there!!

  • We met through a mutual friend who invited us both to an Irish music event at a local bar. Time went by and we came up with a lot of excuses to talk or see each other. And then one day he kissed me and that was that.

  • I was working at a bar downtown and DH used to come in with friends.  We never actually met (he says he remembers me but I dont remember him) but then by coincedence one of his best friends from back home in Colorado moved to SD and got a job as the General Manager of the bar.  We would see eacher other when he came into the bar or when groups of us would go out togethor but nothing happened.  I moved to Lake Tahoe, he moved to New Zealand and nothing happened for a couple of years.  We both ended up moving back to SD and seeing each other one night at Typhoon Saloon in PB.  We talked the whole night and exchanged numbers.  We dated for three years and then got married!

  • We both started to work at The Sports Authority in Oceanside (about a week apart) he had a grilfriend so nothing came about. But then we found out that we were both planning on going to the same collage so we went to an orientation together (i didn't know he had broke up with his girlfriend at that time) but we hit it off and been together ever since.

  • We met in a business statistics class and he did not like me at first because he thought I was some ditzy sorority girl.  One night, we went out with a group of friends and I drove him home.  We (or I should say he) talked the whole time.  From that point, we became great friends.  Fast forward 7 years...him mom had a stroke and eventually passed away and we became closer and closer and started dating and now we are married!
  • My family moved to the nieghborhood D grew up in when I was 16. I was very good friends with his sister and D knew my parents. I had a boyfriend of like 2 years and was completly un-interested in meeting him. Within a week of breaking up with my boyfriend D stoped by to introduce himself. We started dating right away and 5 years later, we're married!!!
  • we met @ a party, i had a boyfriend @ the time so it wasn't a hey let's hook-up kind of thing.  i'd always see him around @ parties.  fast forward 5mths later, no boyfriend, a mutual friend told him of me & we "re-met" @ another party. . . yeah i know, lots of parties.  spent the entire rest of the weekend hanging out & talking. we've been together ever since.
  • We met as happenstance roommates. I accepted a job in Orange County in May of 2002 and needed to move from San Diego, and I needed a place to live. I found a nice girl to live with and 3 days before I was supposed to move, the girl backed out of the living arrangement.
At the same time, DH had been looking for a rommate to fill the spare bedroom in the house he was living in. Through Roommates.com, I found DH, we met up and decided to be roommates but also quickly became friends. (we were both actually seeing other people at the time).

About a month after that, we realized that there was more chemistry involved and we knew we wanted to be more than friends. Soon after this realization, I moved into a new apartment (with a female roommate this time!) and we starting "officially" dating.

  • Thanks for sharing your stories!  You definitely have more interesting ones to share than I do.
  • I'm late :)

First weekend in the dorms one guy invited a bunch of girls over to his brothers fraternity house.  I met DH there but ignored him and he found me in between classes the next week, a month later we were officially dating and we got married 4 1/2 years later.

Oh and we are still super close with said guy who introduced us. awwww.
  • We have a boring one too:

We met at work. He'd been working there for almost two years when I started. I was 16 and it was my first job. He was going to college.

We were introduced by the girl who was training me and she said JoJo this is Danielle, Danielle this is JoJo. The next day I needed help with something hardware related (the department he worked in... I was a cashier). I said "hey, JoJo, could you help me with this?" And he responded by saying "My name isn't JoJo, it's Joseph." and walked away!!!

I thought he was such a jerk until I worked with him a bit and he started to warm up to me. I always went out and partied on the weekends and he never did... one time I needed a ride home and the person who first introduced us talked him into giving me a ride home. We became friends after that and than a few months later bumped it up and started dating.

  • We met in college- we both had the same class, Sociology of Deviant Behavior, haha! We had mutual friends too. We just started talking in class, then met out at a bar one night, and the rest is history!! :)
  • We also met in college.  I was an officer in an organization that threw raves and he joined (a year after I did, since he's a year behind me in school).  I apparently met him a bunch of times before I remembered him, but when I do remember meeting him, he was the cute guy sitting there in glasses, reading.  I tried to organize a club trip to see the Gulls hockey team and Chris was the only member who said he wanted to go.  At this point, the club had over 100 members, so I really wasn't sure who he was (it was over e-mail) and so I dragged another friend/officer with me.  To my delight, when I picked Chris up, it turned out he was the cute guy from the meetings!

I had a boyfriend when we first met, but I knew instantly that I liked Chris.  My bf and I were going to be breaking up shortly, when he left for a year of study abroad in South Africa.  When T & I broke up, Chris helped comfort me, for the day or two it took me to get over it.  Within a couple weeks we finally kissed and less than a month later we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend.  Now we've been together over 7 years and married almost 5 months.
  • We met via a mutual online message board acquiatance.  We were both on the Dave Gahan message board and never interacted until I got free tickets to see Dave at a TV performance.  I met DH at the Jimmy Kimmel show the night of the performance--two days after I moved back to California.  We met up the following night at the San Diego show and he pestered me for my phone number.  After he went back to Houston--he would call, email and text me all the time.  We got to know each other on his days off when he would fly to LA to see his parents.  He took me to Paris (yes.....that Paris!) a few months after we met to go to a concert.  In his post concert, french beer induced druken stupor he unofficially proposed and we have been together ever since.
  • As our pastor during our wedding ceremony:

Guy and girl meet. Girl likes all of guys friends. Girl dates all of guys friends and cries on guys shoulder after each of guys friends breaks up with her. Guy falls in love with girl, girl continues said pattern. One day girl asks guy to take her to homecoming and guy is stoked (yes, pastor said stoked. lol). Girl realizes she has feelings for guy and they live happily ever after.
