Favorite Restaurant in Hillcrest?

I am planning a date with my hubby tomorrow and want some recs. has anyone been to Sushi Itto in Hillcrest? We are going to watch Juno at the Landmark and I want to eat within walking distance. Thanks San Diego Beauties!!

Re: Favorite Restaurant in Hillcrest?

  • I want to see that movie!  We saw Definately Maybe last night and it was very cute.  My fav Thai food place is in Hillcrest.  Lotus Thai.  It isn't right next to the theatre though.  If you like Thai though you should try it sometime.

  • Sushi Itto is not that great and kind of pricey.  There is a sushi place right next to the wireless phone store across the street if you are craving sushi but the ambience leaves you wanting.  Bombay is great for Indian food but you should try Ortegas Mexican Bistro.  Make reservations because it gets pretty crowded.  It is on University next to Edible Arrangements so just a block or so away. you can park at the movies and walk over.  They have great food and the almond margarita is my fave although everyone raves about the pomegranite margarita.

  • yay, my neighborhood.

    I second oretega's my fave!
Or Pizza Nova is in the Shopping center with the movies theatre. Also, Sushi Itto, is Okay. . . we also like Arrivederci's
  • You brought up my favorite topic...food!  Bombay is good for Indian food; Khyber Pass is also good for Afghan/Greek/Middle Eastern food; Taste of Thai is good; City Deli is good for sandwiches.  Have fun!

  • thanks ladies for the suggestions. we don't eat meat (because of lent) tomorrow which is why i thought of sushi. i am so excited for our little date, its long overdue.
  • I've herad the same thing about Sushi itto...I've heard Sushi Ono is the place to go. My fave's there is Pizza Nova, though I've always wanted to go to Kemosabe, as I've heard great things!!

  • We LOVE Ono Sushi.  Just thinking of their pizza roll makes my mouth water ;)  It would be a bit of a walk from the theatre, but I've done it before.  It's East of the 163 on the North side of University right past the Vons shopping center (Wine Steals is across the street).  It would be like a 3 minute drive from the theatre.

Juno is fantastic!  We laughed, we cried and I loved it!!

    Have fun!
  • I absolutely love Ebisu Sushi.  I'm still somewhat new in town, so I'm not sure how close that is to Landmark.  Someone else mentioned Kemo Sabe which is also yummy.  If you're in the mood for sushi, though go to Ebisu!
  • KEMO SABE!!

Seriously the best restaurant there and my favorite in all of San Diego. Please give it a try. :)

    p.s. Juno was awesome!

  • I can't pick one favorite place, there are too many good ones!  Try India Palace, on University & 7th, if you like Indian food.  They have lots of vegetarian options, from what I remember, plus their food is delicious.

Also, in the same shopping center is Taste of Szechuan.  They have a dish that MH says is really yummy -- garlic shrimp.  Their food was really good and, though the decor is a little outdated, it was a really nice experience.

I'm no good with sushi recs, since I don't eat it.  MH has had Kiki Sushi (same shopping center as the other 2 restaurants, we live practically next door to it) and Ono Sushi.  He's heard that Sushi Itto is the best, but never ate there.  Ono is good but a little pricey; Kiki is good too, he says, though it's not as fancy and it's cheaper for larger portions.
