Re: Anyone else up?

  • i'm here too. DH is out with the guys and won't be home until 1. i'm not necessarily waiting up for him but i don't feel like going to bed, either. i'm looking at pictures of a house i want to drive by tomorrow to check out. daydreaming again...
  • Meeee!  I'm a night owl so I'm still planning to do some eyebrow maintenance and a few rows of knitting.

    How is everyone doing?
  • Nothing wrong with daydreaming! DH went to bed early because he's going to a swapmeet tomorrow and well.. Those are just too boring for me.
  • LOL @ eyebrow maintenance. Cute. I'm so over due for that it's not even funny and I'm afraid to pluck more than the few blonde hairs in the center of it all..

PS. I really need to learn how to knit/crochet.

  • what are you knitting?

i knit too. right now i'm working on a pillow as a gift for my office, since my last day is tuesday before i switch jobs. my boss has been talking about getting a new couch, so i figure i can leave a knitted pillow behind.
  • Me.  I should be in bed.  But I'd rather look at camera stuff online and nest right now.
  • I'm looking at above ground pools. *grins* I really want one if we plan on staying here.. Is it bad that I'd rather put a pool up than put it into the house? I change my mind a lot so the pool probably won't happen anyways.
  • Dee,
We installed an above ground pool a couple years ago. I think it was around $3500 for a huge round one, installed.  I do love it now that we had a deck built around it.  An above ground pool w/o a deck is too much of a PITA in my opinion.

You could always get what DH and I call a "ghetto pool"- one of those soft sided blue 4' high pools that come in a box.  A friend of ours has one and although we made fun of him for it, it was rather practical and cheap.  I think it was around $300.
  • if it makes you like your current place enough to stay, i don't think that's crazy at all.
  • I'm up. DH went to bed about an hour ago. I'm exhausted, but I'm cracking up reading this blog called Tales from labor and Delivery. I'm going to hell for cracking up at some of these stories.

  • Christa,  I'm knitting a lace knit vest in burgandy.  I usually never finish big projects. :)  I hve lots of halfway done sweaters that didn't fit or came out malformed.  Here's a picture of the pattern: http://img.yarn.com/images/items/33/3908/172651.jpg

    What are you working on?
  • The knitted pillow sounds great!
  • I'm checking out Namco. I always tell DH when the fall sales hit their 3k pools go down to around a grand or so with EVERYTHING including the decks!!! So if anything, I think I'll talk to DH about getting one of those blow up 4' pools for now and then in the fall when the sales hit, I'll take the money and hopefully get something for the following summer.

  • Ooh, my BIL/SIL have the ghetto pool.  It works for what they want, but those things will only last a couple years.  They've had theirs for 2 years and I'll be suprised if it makes it to this summer.  They don't plan on stayin in their house long term so it wasn't worth it to them to put in an above ground pool in.
  • kathy the vest is adorable. i haven't ventured into a sweater or anything resembling one yet. i don't have an online pic of the pillow but it's super easy and they look great. i've made a number of them as gifts and you can finish them in a weekend...which is the plan tomorrow!
  • I've heard not-so-good things about Namco.  Their pools aren't built very durable and the price doesn't include installation.  You can tell the difference when you look at the support system.  See them in person and compare.

  • I think a ghetto pool would be fine for now. It's not like I swim laps.. It's going to be a nasty summer in my prediction so I just want to be cool.. Plus with our treed lot, we have a lot of privacy. No neighbors going blind from seeing my fat arse swimming around a kiddie pool. Bahaha!

  • Christa, the pillows sound so cute.  That's a project I my actually finish. :)  Where did you get the pattern?
  • Ahh thanks for the heads up on Namco! Where could I find the blow up ones that high? Wal-Mart?
  • Dee, the ghetto pools are quite spacious!  I've often wondered if we would have been better going that route, especially with a kid.

All total, the pool and 2 big Trex decks cost us around $10,000 (and we built one of the 14x14 decks ourselves).  It did give us a great spot for parties!  We had one last summer and the pool deck was for lounging/swimmers and the lower deck became a dance floor with a DJ. Ask MrsPiggy! :)
  • Yup, that's the kind of pool I was talking about.  They make them even bigger.  It serves the purpose, especially if you're not planning to stay.  A pool can actually decrease your house's value because some buyers don't want to deal with them.
  • Beaglemommy is right about the above ground pools.  They don't bring any additional value to your home.
  • i copied the pattern out of a coworker's Knit It! magazine, Fall 2005. i can't seem to find it online but here's one that looks similar http://www.joann.com/static/project/0702/P018364.pdf

mine isn't fuzzy and it's knit in a different direction but this gives you the general idea
  • Oh nice! Hmmmm I have my choices.. Now I just have to decide when the check comes in June ;)
  • Love that pillow Christa!
  • Christa, what a nice gift! Thanks for the pattern.  I'm going to have to try it.  Seems like a great way to use up leftover skeins of yarn from my unfinished products! :)
  • i like the pattern i have better. i'm trying desperately to find it!
  • Ok which one should I get with my refund.. I figure we plan on having parties this summer including (hopefully) a 4th of july party which could consist of a ton of people including kids.. But then again we plan on entertaining adults too and well.. Pools would be great with those parties ;)
