JR.com - Photographers ? for you.

I want to buy my camera but noticed the price on B&H went up $30 over the past couple weeks.  Have you ever purchased from JR.com?  Any feedback?  What about adorama.com?

Also, when purchasing a camera online to make sure you don't get a grey market camera - as long as it says "USA Warranty" on the item description then it's not grey market correct?

Thanks!

Re: JR.com - Photographers ? for you.

  • Sorry, never heard of JR.com.  I have ordered stuff from Adorama and they're a very reputable company.

A camera with a USA Warranty *from the manufacturer* will not be grey market.  If it has an international warranty or a store or 3rd party warranty, it's likely grey market.

What camera are you looking at?  If it's a Canon, you may want to wait a month.  They usually  come out with new products and offer rebates around this time of year. Not sure about Nikons.
  • Thanks Kathy.  I really want to get the Canon Rebel Xti.  I know they are coming out with the XSI sometime this month.  You think they will offer a rebate on the Xti only or possibly any other models?
  • Usually the rebates are on most models but the best buys end up being the older ones, not the brand new ones because they'll be full price less a small rebate.

The XT is very similar to the XTi I believe.  That may save you some money.  LMK if you need lens recommendations.
  • I probably will, thanks!  I have been taking some classes so that once I actually have the camera I'll know how to use it.  But I thought I would have already purchased a camer by now.  But I just couldn't make a decision and then I saw a post from you a couple weeks back about the rebates and figured I would try to wait it out to see if the Xti goes down.

I noticed on B&H that the body with kit lense went up $30 over the past few weeks and also the the body alone went up about $20 I believe. So I think I am just going to try and stick it out a little longer.
  • Yes, as soon as the new model comes out, the prices will drop.  It's really odd that the prices went up, though.  Never seen that happen.

You may want to consider buying the camera itself from a local camera store (I mean an independant store, not Best Buy).  Not such a big deal for lenses and accessories; bargain shop for those.  You may pay more for the camera but it may be worth it for the support.  I lost a warranty card and my store hooked me up.  They're also forever doing minor repairs for me in store.  I brought one of my cameras there last month for a repair and it turned out to be something they fixed themselves.
  • Everything I've bought from J&R over the years has been great.  And they've been around forever.

  • I found a nice xti kit at costco yesterday.   Think around $1050 with a few lens, body, bag and a few others.

This is one for the camera body online.
