How long do you keep records for???

I am purging some old paperwork and I can't find info on how long to keep my papers for college (like applications) and also student loan info.
I graduated in 2001 and the loans are paid off...

Any ideas??

TIA!

Re: How long do you keep records for???

  • I don't have the info you're looking for, but I just wanted to say that I'm jealous. I graduated in 1998 and my loans are nowhere NEAR being paid off.

    Sigh.

  • Oh don't be jealous!! We paid them off using our home equity - so, in reality I am still paying for them. At the time, I had about 8k left to go. And that was about 3 years ago .....sighing right with ya!
  • I remember getting 1 letter for a loan that I recently paid off...Did you get  a letter as well?  If so, I'd just save that.  Congrats on paying them off...I consolidated all of mine back in 2001 and am still paying them off...oh well!
  • I say purge the college applications, you have earned the degree right?  So therefore why do you need the application?  Financial paperwork that can be linked to taxes (which SL are) I keep for 7 years.
