What to do in Ledyard general area-besides casinos?

DH and I are going to the Stonecroft Inn in Ledyard, CT in May for a mini vacation. We'll be there Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. We're planning on going to Foxwoods one night for dinner and gambling. Any other ideas of what we can do in the general area? TIA

Re: What to do in Ledyard general area-besides casinos?

  • Mystic is close by (I think) as is Providence.  You could spend the afternoon at the aquarium/seaport and have dinner somewhere along the shore.  Providence Place is a great mall and I'm sure there must be good restaurants?
  • there is the mystic aquarium, mystic seaport, the mashantucket museum,

  • There are a couple of wineries in the area, North Stonington I think, you could go for a tasting.
  • Hi, I live in Ledyard (pretty much around the corner form Stonecroft), and I can tell you, there's not much right here.  :-)  But, Mystic is only 5 minutes away, so I'd definitely go for a day, there's a lot to do.  Or, you could go to Newport, which isn't too far, either.  And if you aren't completely casino-ed out by Foxwoods, you could always hit the Mohegan Sun, which is about 10/15 minutes away.  If you have any specific  questions, let me know.
  • there is a winery not too far from Foxwoods - Jonathan Edward's http://www.jedwardswinery.com/
  • old mystic village is really cute to walk around and shop
  • Westerly, RI is a cute downtown area that has shops and restaraunts/bars to hang out in.  It's not that far from Foxwoods.
