Question about Jack 'n Jill for my out of state brother & FI

This August, my brother is getting married in CO(where he & his FI live). We're throwing them a jack 'n jill shower type thing over memorial day weekend so that friends & family in CT, who may not be able to travel to CO can wish them well & meet the woman who's finally going to get my brother down the aisle. Although this is the main purpose behind the party, I'm sure people will be bringing gifts as well. However, my brother & his FI will need to somehow carry or ship everything back to CO. How do we word the invitation in such a way that we suggest either money or gift cards???

Also, we will be inviting people to the Jack 'n Jill that are not being invited to the wedding. Do you think that's OK? How do we word the invitation so that people don't assume that because they're invited to this party, they've invited to the wedding?

Has anyone had experience with a situation like this? My mom & I appreciate your help!!

Re: Question about Jack 'n Jill for my out of state brother & FI

  • I would add an insert to the invite that says something like "While gifts are certainly not neccesary, if you'd like to shower the bride and groom with present, please keep in mind that they will be traveling home to CO."  Or something along those line.  IMO, requesting GCs or $ is tacky.  If you word it carefully, ppl will get the hint.  Also, you can share this news in person when ppl ask.

As for the shower but no wedding, word the invitation so that it's obvious some ppl might not get a wedding invite.  Apparently I'm not being very creative w/mhy words right now bc I can't think of anything cute.

  • How DARE you invite people to a shower that are not invited to the wedding, did the knotties not teach you well?!??!!

    (he he he I kid)

I guess in order to answer your questions I need to know how you are wording the overall invite, AIM me later.

  • Call me crazy but I don't think you need to specify anything.  I have been invited to showers and not weddings before and my mom and aunt also invited people to my shower but not the wedding.  Just because I was invited to one thing I wouldn't expect to be invited to the wedding.

  • the two jack and jill's that I went to were run like a stag

you had to buy a ticket to go - which got you food and drinks (this in turn is the gift to the couple)

like a stag, everyone and anyone is invited to attend - I don't think people will expect a wedding invite just because they went to the jack and jill
