Stroller input wanted!

How important is it to have a stroller that enables DC to lie down?

Julia will be outgrowing the snap 'n' go soon, and I thought I wanted the Peg Perego Pliko P3, but when I went stroller shopping today, I fell in love with the Quinny Zapp (http://www.zapp.quinny.com/usa.html).

The only cons I can see are: 1) crappy basket and 2) no recline.  BUT I love the way it handled, I love how compact it is (I have a smallish car), I love the way it looks, my diaper bag fit on the back (it has stroller clips), etc.

Any input is appreciated.

p.s. Happy Friday!

Re: Stroller input wanted!

  • Very, very important for us - Ava sleeps in her stroller a lot when we're out and about.  The reclining feature was one of our #1 priorities.  It's s tough choice - there's so many out there!  Good luck!
  • I couldn't deal without a big basket. I LOVE my Peg Perego... I can't wait to use it again. It's very lightweight! I am currently using a monsterous double stroller.
  • Angela, do you think that Ava couldn't fall asleep if she were on an incline?  Right now, Julia can still fall asleep anytime, anywhere.  She often falls asleep in her bouncer so I was hoping she'd still be able to sleep in her stroller even if it were on an angle...wishful thinking?

  • love love my peg!

I went through three strollers until I bought this one.

  • From the perspective of a mom with a toddler...my DS hasn't reclined in his stroller for almost a year now.  If I attempt to put it back he freaks.  He really likes being upright and being able to explore.
When he was your DD's age, he could fall asleep upright in the swing, etc.
I don't see that being an issue.  I do however, agree with the pp about the basket size.  Then again, I use my stroller for neighborhood walks and trips to the mall.  Trips to the mall require the use of the basket for shopping bags, etc.  Oh yeah, also use it at the beach every summer, so it also helps to lug stuff down to the waterfront.
  • Ava used to be the same, but not anymore.  Although, she still falls asleep in the carseat which isn't really an incline - but I hate to see her head flopping over - i think her neck must hurt, you know?  We have a Maclaren Techno XT and love it.  When she is in it and she's sitting up - she never falls asleep.  I recline it - and she's out.
  • I love stroller talk and I could do it all day.

Sara is 20 months are we still use the recline.   If we are out and about and she falls asleep, we lay her back and she can take a 2 hour nap in there.   Even if it is not flat, it should still go back.  Even on their website they call it a quick use stroller.   I wouldn't have that as my main.

I have a bugaboo and I hardly have the basket on, so you can live without it.   My second quick trip stroller is the Graco IPO.   Now there are plenty of great stollers without going to a Bugaboo. Something like the quinny and the bugaboo can have clips on the sides for bags, and I put a skiphop diaper bag on the back.

I would go to USA baby in newington or someother large baby boutique and see what else is out there.

Gonna go on the great stroller search for you....    Mutsy is cool, but some still pricey

A great alternative is the Britax Viqour, it is one I would have gotten if it was available at the time.   The Mutsy Spider is like the one you picked, but does recline.  Still no basket.  (on sale at strollers.com)

    Others to consider too.
    zooper
    quinny buzz
    baby planet pro max

  • Thank you, thank you!  You know, I was looking at zoopers...

So if you really want to go on a search for me, here are some criteria:
    1) Can't be ginormous.  I'm 5'3" and drive a smallish car.  Just won't work for us.
    2) Must not be hideous and hopefully is cool/modern.
    3) Big basket, while not a must, is a very nice-to-have.

Think that's it -- I'm becoming obsessed with strollers too...:)

  • Forgot to add, good steering (the snap 'n' go, while great for its main purpose, is awful!) and recline of some sort.

Can't remember why I nixed the zooper...

  • What is the price range?
  • Pretty important, Lucas often falls asleep in  his stroller and having a decent recline helps to keep him asleep.  We just got the Wendy Bellisimo umbrella stroller and so far I really like it!
  • Max $600

I've since decided that you're all right and that the Zapp won't do it as a full-time stroller...:(

  • Carrie, my good friend uses the Zapp full time and loves it.  Her only complaint is that her ds doesn't sleep in it, and he can get cranky if they are out too long.

We have the Peg Perego Aria and I'm hoping we love it when we start using it, b/c I really don't want to get another stroller for awhile!
