Need clothing advice

My work clothes need to be replaced.  Prior to getting married I lost weight, and had bought some in between time pants.  Not great quality, but good enough to last me for a while.  Enter the bfp, add 4 pounds of bloat and now I definitely need to replace my pants.

Here?s the problem.  I am not a small girl, and I fluctuate between size 14 and 16.  Often I straddle the line between misses and plus size.  I?ve tried on maternity clothes, full belly panels are too big, and the roll panels feel really awkward on me.  I?ve already bought jeans in a bigger size, and while they fit the hips (which is where I?m growing), the legs look weird b/c they?re too loose.

I?m kinda at a loss, I need clothes, but do I go for oddly fitting regular clothes in a bigger size, or oddly fitting maternity clothes?

Re: Need clothing advice

  • I was in the same situation before I had my miscarriage. I would say go to Lane Bryant and try on some of their pants. I had a few pairs left over from when I was a size 14 and they were great for that pg bloat.
  • All of these stroes have plus-size/larger size maternity stuff :
    Lane Bryant
    Old Navy
    Motherhood
    Gap

As far as the pants/jeans go - don't get the full-panel stuff yet - you're not there.  They make pants that have a banded waist that will just be comfortable in this in-between stage.  The full panel stuff will come in handy when you're 7 mos and you need SOMETHING to hold the big belly - so hang on to them.  Good luck!

  • Have you tried a belly band? I saw these when I was pregnant but never got them, perhaps they'd work for you now (and after the baby gets here):  http://tinyurl.com/572rj4
  • the benefit to oddly fitting maternity clothes is that you'll eventually grow into them. the down side to oddly fitting regular clothes is that you will eventually outgrow them.

get a bella band or a tummy sleeve. seriously. solved a lot of problems for me in the beginning. that & draw string, elastic wasted pants... I got 2 pairs of black pants at NY & Co. They were in the "activewear section" but look completely suitable for work. I've just recently started wearing maternity jeans & while I do have to keep pulling them up, they do not dig into me & cause me indigestion & breathing difficulties. I didn't get the full panel ones. I just got the low rise & roll panel ones & they're soo soo comfy.

  • Gap or Old Navy seemed to have the best Maternity Wise.  I had a great pair of gap pants that had an adjustable waist so I could let it out as needed.  Lane Bryant also would be good.

  • I tried roll panel at Old Navy and Target and the results were horrid.  I felt like the pants were all too low rise.  I don't have a flat belly or anything close to it, so I felt like I had super muffin top.  And by super I mean like one of those mammoth muffins bakey's offer.
  • Have you checked out Gap?  I had great luck with their demi panel pants in maternity, but in the Pre PG size.  I can still wear them, just not for a super long time because they started to dig a little at about 32 weeks.  I finally went out at that point and got full panel jeans.

Also, the belly band from Motherhood was a life saver.
  • I wore my gap demi's Jess is talking about my entire pregnancy.   Love them!
  • I would also suggest getting maternity pants with the small band, I was able to wear them up until I got pretty big and then they would just hang under my belly.  Old Navy and Gap have some decent stuff...good luck!
