What was the first food you fed your baby?

Aside from rice cereal, that is?  Did you buy it or make it yourself?

Thanks!

Re: What was the first food you fed your baby?

  • I think it was either Earth's Best sweet potatoes or applesauce.  I did not make it myself.  Ava loved the Earth's Best and the Gerber organic stuff - I fed her the stage 1's and 2's until about 10 months old.  I think we started cheerios at 7-8 months.
  • Earth's best oatmeal.  After that it was butternut squash at easter dinner.  MMMMMM she said.
  • I can't remember what we gave JT, but it was a veggie (peas or beans I think) - Gerber. Mattingly got homemade sweet potato followed by carrots, apples & banana - all home made.

right now he is liking the combo fruits (last night he had apple, banana berry)- by Gerber

  • I was originally told to try green veggies before orange so that Elizabeth didn't get used to the sweetness of the orange veggies, so we tried peas....not a good first food, she hated it!  After taking the advice of many other moms, we next tried sweet potatoes (Gerber, I think organic, we try to buy as much of the organic stuff as we can, but all the fruits/veggies don't come in an organic version) and they were a huge success.  We've since tried, with success, pears, butternut squash, applesauce, carrots and oatmeal (Beechnut).  The not-so-successful foods were bananas and peaches.  Next on our list are green beans and prunes.  We don't make any of our baby food ourselves.
  • sweet potatoes.  He loved them.  Jarred, not homemade.

  • Bananas - Gerber
  • It was either sweet potatoes or peas.   We bought it.
  • Sweet potatoes, then squash. We did orange veggies, green veggies, then fruit.

All jarred. I was not at all enterprising.

  • Sweet potatoes, then carrots, then butternut squash.  I actually made all of them over the long T-giving weekend.

Since then, I've made the sw. potatoes & squash again b/c it's just SO easy.  Cut in half, put in oven to bake, squish with fork.

Other than those two, we buy the rest of the baby food.

  • Earths Best Peas...he loved them!!!
  • Gerber sweet potatoes. She loved them! She liked everything we gave her, except for peas, which she learned to like after trying them a few times.
