New Mom's: Bottle Help

Hello,
I do not post on here much, but I need some help from any new Mom's.
I am trying to figure out which bottles to register for.  I have seen in the news about all of the plastic vs glass bottles and the BPA free, etc.  But I am just not sure which ones are the best.  And I have also heard from a lot of 1st time Mom's that their child ended up not liking a particular bottle and they had to go out and get all new ones.  So do I register for a few different kinds?
Any thoughts/suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
TIA!!!

Re: New Mom's: Bottle Help

  • Yes, I would suggest registering for a few different kinds. Playtex Drop Ins, Playtex Ventaire, Dr. Browns, Avent... Also, if you don't plan on microwaving your bottles then I wouldn't worry about BPA... Just register for a good bottle warmer :)
  • We started DS on Avent. I wasn't convinced about the whole BPA thing.  He took to them right away and never had an issue. Although as first time parents, if he had an issue, we didn't pick up on it.

I just got back from the store where I bought some BPA free bottles (cheap Evenflo ones) and some BPA free sippy cups.  The gold standard for BPA free bottles is Just Born, but they are very expensive.  If DS takes to the Evenflo bottle I'll get more of them and we'll be BPA free. If he rejects it I'm going to keep using my Avent bottles, but will be a bit more proactive about introducing the sippy cup.

  • We started with Avent bottles and they were great...although they aren't BPA-free so I stopped using them a few months ago (we never microwaved them or put them in the dishwasher, but better safe than sorry IMO).  We are using Playtex Drop-Ins now and they are fantastic - love them!

  • You never know what is going to work for your baby so as pp stated, you'll want to try different varieties (if one isn't working), but Dr. Brown's works like a champ for us!
  • We have used the playtex Drop-Ins from the beginning and they are BPA-free - they also cut down the air that that your baby will swallow when feeding.  Can't say enough god things about the Drop-ins!
  • Wow, thank you everyone for the feedback!!

    I appreciate all of it!

  • We use avents, but I tried a bunch before I could find  one #1 would take.  I never micro the bottles so I am not concerned.  I would register for 3-4 different kinds (one bottle ea) so you can find out what kind yor baby will like.
  • Dr. Brown's were the first bottles we tried, and DD took right to them, so that's what we stuck with.  They're not BPA-free, but we never microwave them or put them in the dishwasher.  We did later on decide to try to go BPA-free, so we bought a couple of Dr. Brown's glass bottles...DH likes them, but I hate them, I think they're too heavy.  We also have a bunch of Born Free, and DD does well with them, too.  Both Dr. Brown's and Born Free have vent systems that supposedly help reduce colic and ear infections, but that also means more small pieces to wash.  Good luck!

  • We have used Avent from the start and Lucas has liked them, he also liked the Dr. Browns but they are a pain  to wash and more expensive.
  • We have only used the playtex drop ins.  You can also get the liners cheaper in generic brand from walmart, target or BJ's, just and FYI for you.
