So I'm at lunch today with a bunch of co-workers and I get the usual "How are you feeling?" about 10 times.  Fine, no problem.  Then one women (who works next door to us but eats lunch with us) first asks "How are you feeling?"  "Fine" I say.  Then she says "You look healthy".  What the heck does that mean?  Am I supposed to look unhealthy for some reason?  Or was it some strange weight comment?  I stared at her for a minute and then said "Um, thanks I guess".  I sometimes get the feeling that people think just because you are pg, you are constantly supposed to look tired or sick or miserable.  People say some weird things, and I know people hear much worse, but I had no idea what the heck this woman was trying to say.  Everyone else at the table looked kind of puzzled too.  I know I'm being sensitive, people just irk me sometimes!

Re: Don't get this comment

  • I work at a school, so I would get asked that same question 8,000 times a day.  My favorite was "you look great".  Well, what were they going to say???  You look like crap and have gained 50lbs????

I also love when people ask what DS's name is and when I tell them what it is they say "I like that" or "it's nice".  Once again, are they really going to tell you if they hate it???
  • Kelly, I'm gonna play a lil devil's advocate and say that you are a thin girl and the pregnancy looks good on you.  With that said, perhaps some women might find you (non pg) a bit too thin (older women tend to do this to the younger fitter generation), and she's in some way really just giving you a compliment and saying that pregnancy agrees with you.  ;-)
  • Eh, I find sometimes people just don't know what to say, so they say comments that don't really make sense.  I'm sure you look great!
  • Blue- I can see what you're saying.  This woman is much older, and on the heavy side, although I've always been pretty average.  I kind of got the impression she was trying to say something nice, but at the same time there was this tone of surprise in her voice, like I'm pg and how could I possibly look healthy.  It was weird, but I do get what you're saying.
