What is educational neglect?  I've never heard of it.  Just being curious :)

Re: Lexi (of &Tim fame)

  • Spencer-
Educational Neglect is a category of filing under the larger umbrella of Abuse and Neglect.  The normal perception of abuse and neglect is physical. However, educational neglect and (medical neglect) are not physical neglect issues. They speak to a parent's inability to abide by the educational laws. For instance, a child may be able to come to school however the parent does not make arrangements for them to come, allows them to stay home, KEEPS them from attending because they don't want to be acused of neglect or any number of other reasons.  In this case a parent is required by the courts (her kids are on probation) to ensure that her children get to school. She is not doing so, she has not shown up for ANY PPT's even though we have rescheduled at her request to a time she determined, and she is not mainting the child's medical issues so as to allow him to attend school.  (does that make sense?)

This is the link to the DCF definition. Sorry this was so long!
  • That makes sense, thanks for explaining :)
