Your DC and Bedtime Poll

I was just wondering what time your DC goes down to bed for the night.  I have two close friends I work with whose DC go to bed at about 6:00 and 6:30.  For the most part, both children sleep through the night, unless they're sick or something like that.  One of these children is almost 8 months, and the other is a year and a half.  I feel like this is so early, but maybe it's actually more common than I thought?  These mommies say that this time can be a bit hard because they can't run any errands with DC after work, rather they really just get home, feed DC and maybe do a bath, or play for a little while, but they don't have a lot of time with DC each night because of the early bedtime.

So, I'm wondering, what time does your DC go to bed at night, and how old is your DC?

Re: Your DC and Bedtime Poll

  • Lucas will be one on the 26th! He usually goes to be bed between 7:30-8:00. He has dinner around 5:30-6, then bathtime, play time with mommy and daddy and then bed. He JUST started to sleep through the night about a month ago, he occasionally will still wake up but goes right back to sleep.  He sleeps til 6:30-7.  That sounds a little bit early to me, I would want more time with DC at night.
  • My DS will be 3 months tomorrow :)  He is usually asleep by 7:30pm.  We have let him set his own schedule and he definitely wants to be asleep by that time.  We usually start our bedtime routine around 7pm, with a bath and his last bottle.

When I return to work in 2 weeks I have fears that I will never actually get to spend time with him anymore.  I will pick him up by 4pm, but between cooking dinner, eating, and getting him ready for bed, I feel like it isn't much time.  At least I am only returning to school for the last 8 weeks and then I am off again.
  • Ava goes down at 7pm and sleeps through till 6:30am.  She's almost 18 months.

6 seems early to me, but maybe they nap less during the day?  Although Ava's a terrible napper.  By 7, she's asking to go to bed - "night, night?  night night?" over and over. lol

  • Arianna is 3 and goes to bed at 8. She has had that bedtime since before 1.
She is also allowed to sleep until whenever she wants since I don't work/have to bring her to daycare. I'm assuming those moms do?
  • BTW she usally is up by 630-7. Sometimes later, but that's rare.
  • Yes, my friends both have to wake their DC up to get them to daycare before they come to school.  One of the children takes a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, the younger one has never been a good napper, and rarely naps for more than 20 minutes at a time, if at all.  They both say that if they try to keep the girls up any longer they become cranky monsters.  Also both go down on their own, without being rocked, etc.
  • Abby goes to sleep between 7 and 7:30 and wakes up between 6:30 and 7.  Occasionally we're a little earlier or later depending on our daytime naps and activities.

  • Nate goes to bed now between 7:30 and 8:00.  It used to be around 7 when he was younger.  6 or 6:30 seems really early to me.
  • When Will is amenable to going to bed, we start his bedtime routine around 6:45 and he's usually out by 7:15 and will sleep until about 7 am.  But we've had nights lately where we are driving him around at 10 pm to get him to sleep.
  • Elizabeth is 6 1/2 months old, and we typically start her bedtime routine between 7pm and 7:15, and she's usually asleep between 7:30 and 7:45...sometimes easily, sometimes she fusses for a bit.  If she's been at daycare that day, she'll often sleep through the night till we get her up in the morning (between 5:30 and 6), cuz she does not nap well at day care.  If she's been home with one of the grandmas, she typically wakes once during the night, gets a bottle, and falls back asleep until 5:30 or so (sometimes she wakes up on her own, sometimes we wake her).

I get off work at 4:30, so if DD is at day care, I have her by 4:45 and we're home by 5:15.  Typically I feed her dinner (baby food) around 6 and then she gets her "bedtime bottle" around 7.  DH and I don't eat until after she's in bed, so we get time to play with her in the evening.  And usually, DH prepares dinner while I do Elizabeth's nighttime routine.

6pm does seem really early to me, but if it works for them, who am I to judge?
  • Molly is 17 months and is on her way to bed between 7:15 and 8 pm.  Never later than 8 pm, other than a night we are out visiting friends or something.  She sleeps until 6:30 or 7, occasionally later.
  • Emma is 21 months and goes to bed pretty consistently between 7:30 and 8.  I think 6:30 sounds kind of early, but I guess it also depends on what time they have to get up in the morning.  It's typical for a baby to sleep 12 hours through the night, so if they have to get up at 6:30 am or something, then I can see them going to bed so early.  We don't have to worry about daycare or getting to work, so it's not a problem for Emma to go to bed at 7:30-8, and get up at that same time in the morning.
  • Hailey is 15.5 months, and goes to bed around 7 (although by Friday evening, she is down by 6:30).  She sleeps til 7 am on a daycare day, but later on the weekends.  She has had this bedtime since she was about 7-8 months old.
  • Jillie is almost 21 mos. She has had an 8pm bedtime since 10 mos (her decision). She wakes up between 6:30 and 7 and takes a 2 hour nap. She has been moving bedtime toward 8:30 lately. Yikes.

Before 8 mos, the earliest she went to bed on a regular basis was 7.

  • At 3 months, Jack typically goes to bed between 8-9, he sleeps until anywhere from 6:30 to 9am.  If he gets up at 6:30, he's usually good to take a long nap by 8 for a few hours.  Thank God for that!  IMO - 6/6:30 is very early, but to each his own.  It wouldn't work for us since we pick up DH from the train at 6:35.
